Well introducing POS started it all and not to mention Ethereum enjoyed been close second with Bitcoin then but now it's barely holding to that position since many are collecting the pie of smart contracts market.

The move of ETH to POS called "The Merge", did make a very, very significant difference.
ETH will no longer equal Bitcoin and will not be able to, When Bitcoin remains with POWs who maintain full Decentralization.
Not with a centralized POS and can still be changed by the developer.

Now no one will be able to seed Bitcoin, who says it can beat Bitcoin only obscure projects that then disappear,
but ETH does not disappear, it just changes direction and is no longer in line with Bitcoin.
