Reddit blocks access to VPN users

So, what do you think is the most logical reason for blocking visitors from browsing the site using a VPN?

We can guess what the real reason is, but @TryNinja pointed out a possible solution that definitely makes sense, because if others have done it, probably Reddit is just copying them.


@TryNinja, does that mean that such things cannot be done through the Tor browser (scraping data)? However, the fact that with some VPNs access (without logging) is not blocked means that they are targeting specific VPNs or they just haven't blacklisted them all?

Could be exactly because the IP range for some VPNs aren't on the block list. Every IP has a reputation, so some are more "legit" in the eyes of some website and thus you won't see as much captchas popping up, 503 status errors, etc... while some will be a nightmare to navigate around. Same reason why Tor doesn't work very well with cloudflare websites.

I can still use Reddit even with a VPN, but so have to log in first.

I don't think This is anything new, it's been like that since a few years ago I think.

Even if login doesn't work you can simply transfer cookies to the other device/browser.

Those people who understand how to connect through VPN don't really know that something like Tor exist. The ones who're technically good and who have explored most areas of the internet are the ones who know what tor is and how to use it.

I am afraid I disagree.
I mostly use VPN when I am online, even though TOR is installed on my PC. But I do not always use TOR. Do you think everyone use TOR if they already know about TOR? I think a big number of people know about TOR, but they do not use it because they are not used to use it. Someone may have different reasons for not using it. My reason is, the speed is pretty slow for me. I use slow internet connection and surfing trough Tor makes it more slow.

I have one that shouldn't have a bad reputation, but I've noticed a few times that Reddit is blocked for me when I'm not logged in - although maybe it depends on the server I'm using at the time. It's true that I used to be able to watch YT with the same VPN, today they ask me to log in and prove I'm not a bot.

Probably for security reasons due to the use of bots, flags of IP from its past users. If collecting data based on IP for ads is the main issue, ad blocker is the most recommended to use when accessing social media sites. I don't use VPN now so i can't tell but i'm always using ad blocker so...

Do you know what is the best way to reduce risks of having issues with cloudflare?
I know that using Tro browser with bitcointalk forum can be very problematic sometimes, and some people told me it was impossible for them to log in and use the forum.
Maybe situation with Altcoinstalk forum is a bit better, but still it's better to be ready and prepared.

NYM vpn released update v2025.6 for all devices, so make sure you update on time.
They improved connectivity and user experience, they added always-on kill switch toggle, and everything should run faster.
