Why do alt currencies have value?

With the rise of LTC and more recently FTC, why do these alt coins have value? I can only think of 2 possible reasons:

1) There is something fundamentally better about an alt coin and it will eventually overtake BTC. Thus the coin has value because people are speculating that a specific coin will overtake BTC.

2) Multiple coins can coexists and may even be used for different niches within the market. For instance, LTC may be used for in person (online) transactions due to it's speed.

Altcoin has value because altcoin is created to perfect the shortcomings that exist in bitcoin as its predecessor. The technology used in some altcoins is very good and is worth competing with the king of coins. That is why the altcoin will be very valuable in the future.

People like holding 'full' coins, so Litecoin and Ethereum (plus others) have an appeal. Bitcoin has a stranglehold on the market at the moment, think it's around 52% of the total market at the moment (at least according to coinmarketcap anyway, which accounts for a large portion of trade-able coins). So many altcoins have value at the moment, I like to hold a variety to alleviate the risk.

Bitcoin and Altcoins have value because there is a community behind it. There are people who believe in the technology and invest in it. That's what's giving it a value.

if what I see, altcoin or any coin has a value because its existence gets approval from a lot of people, the more people agree, the more the price goes up, and agree that along with believing, if people believe, it will save it, and will use it for use daily.
