A recently conducted survey published on coinbase indicates that 18% of students in the United States, or nearly 1 in 5 students own cryptocurrency.
According to the survey, university courses about cryptocurrency and blockchain are in high demand. Among all students surveyed, 17% said their knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain is very good, compared to 9% of the general population surveyed at the same time.
According to Bill Maurer, the dean of the School of Social Sciences at the University of California Irvine said.
“Teaching about this kind of stuff now can be really powerful for students that are trying to find their own way and envision what kind of possible alternatives there might be to the prevailing economic system.”
The survey found increasing interest in such courses among a wide range of students. 47 percent of social science major students said they were interested in learning about crypto, as did more than 34 percent of students from computer science and engineering majors.
Interestingly, blockchain and cryptocurrency courses are most prominent in the US. Only five of the 18 international universities listed offer at least one class on blockchain or cryptocurrency.
