The cryptocurrency mobile wallet BRD (formerly Bread Wallet) has announced that it has raised $ 15 million as part of its series B funding cycle to accelerate international expansion and expand its technology platform.

Funding came from SBI Crypto Investment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate SBI Holdings. The new funds are designed to enable BRD to expand its product and engineering group as well as expand its operations in Japan and across Asia.

Adam Traidman, General Director of BRD said:

Investments of SBI Group in BRD will allow us to gain a strong foothold in the Asian market. This shows the incredible support of the Fund we have created in North America and strengthens our ability to measure the success we have achieved over the past 4 years. New investments will ensure our long-term global growth, and we are incredibly excited to work with SBI as a strategic investor and business partner to achieve this goal.

BRD also announced the availability of cryptocurrency purchases using SEPA transfers for the European market through a partnership with payment provider Coinify. This will allow users to buy bitcoins in 34 countries of the SEPA region using Bank accounts.

"BRD has paved the way as a decentralized financial platform, and we're excited to be an elected partner for their European startup,"said Rikke Stare, commercial Director at Coinify, adding that they were among the pioneers of the virtual currency industry, and I'm pleased that they were chosen for use in SEPA."
