Bitcoin Cash Developer Lays Claims on the Identity of Satoshi Nakamoto

Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is one of the most elusive personalities of the current generation. The anonymous founder of Bitcoin released the first version of Bitcoin Software in January 2009 and has been the stuff of legends ever since in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

The Internet has been abuzz with people claiming the identity of Satoshi ever since and is still a mystery. In recent days, there have been private investigators hired to unravel the status of the anonymous founder.

Last week, however, the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) developer, Amaury Sechet, set the eyes rolling when he claimed to be Satoshi Nakomoto.

In a tweet posted from his handle @deadalnix, Sechet wrote

“I am Satoshi Nakamoto. There I said it and I can prove it: 304502200fc3909c3224bc140b7aed365f33f066bd81eabedd198ad2a257882e86586ae8022100f03c6f63cddb43ebf48512c9a0cc0f97fd2cf227d22f15691d7ad65e49ddd659”

He further followed it up with

“The hash of the message is 69ea465fc5f924b61dd51514617a8f2118bc1363c7a91a249d1ac404662139b3
It’s content will be revealed soon.
If you don’t believe me, Stiff!”

Bitcoin core Developer Gregory Maxwell explains that faking Satoshi’s identity, given the public’s limited of understanding of cryptography, is apparently an easy fraud to pull off.

“So, for example, a couple of years ago Craig Wright claimed to ‘prove he was Satoshi’ by merely copying some pre-existing signatures out of the blockchain and posting somewhat obfuscated instructions on verifying them. It was figured out pretty quickly, but still managed to fool a lot of people– they were too caught up in the mumbo-jumbo to think of the obvious,” explained Maxwell in a stackexchange post.

Maxwell is referring to the Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright, who had publicly identified as Satoshi Nakamoto in 2016. Many bitcoin promoters remained skeptical by the claim at that time. The evidence provided was found to be an elaborate hoax later, and Wright’s claim has been discarded by majority of bitcoin community.

Sechet calls himself a ‘benevolent dictator at BCH.’ One of the former Bitcoin Cash developer who is now on Bitcoin SV, named _unwriter, identifies Sechet and Bitcoin ABC as the main problems in the BCH ecosystem. _unwriter believes that virtually anything that Bitcoin ABC wants, ABC gets, which he sees as a disconcerting habit for decentralization. In fact, the dominance of Bitcoin ABC is considered as a motivating factor behind the BSV fork’s foundation.

Sechet, however, is yet to post anything more information as of yet and the jury is still out on his claims to unearth if he is for real or if this is yet another elaborate stunt.
