Your question should be the opposite  :P
Every exchange need pair to pair and if you look at the capitalization of Bitcoin, pairing bitcoin with Altcoins can increase the volume of trade. Bitcoin can always work with out Altcoins. It has been there b4 the evolution of alt.
Even the Ethereum, xrp are always pair with bitcoin like small capitalize coins such as GEX and Veil.
Bitcoin will always be ahead.
