
BAB-1 has arrested a youth from Safipur Andarmanik area of Gazipur's Kaliakair upazila for buying and selling the banned virtual currency Bitcoin online and smuggling the money earned through it abroad. At the time, 19 fake national identity cards, 22 SIM cards and foreign currency were recovered from him. The arrested youth is Raihan Hossain, 29, son of Atar Ali of Safipur Andarmonic Purbapara area of Kaliakair upazila.
RAB-1 Deputy Commander Major Gazi Ashikur Rahman said in a press release that the arrested Raihan had been trading virtual currency bitcoins online for a long time. In this context, an expedition team of RAB-1 conducted a special operation on the ground floor of Atar Ali's house on the 3rd floor of Safipur in Kaliakair police station on the basis of secret information.
According to the preliminary interrogation, he received computer training in 2006 on personal interest. After receiving the training, he has been conducting web site development, design, etc. since 2011. Since June 2020, a Pakistani national, Saeed, 22, has been using the virtual currency Bitcoin, which is not approved by the government, to extort money.
