Korean Exchange Leaks Users Data, Puts Over $600K Worth of Crypto At Risk

A new South Korean cryptocurrency exchange has reportedly leaked critical information of 19 users, putting around $620,000 worth of cryptocurrency at risk.

CoinDesk Korea reported on Monday that an employee at Bitkoex, an exchange launched in May, posted in a Kakao group chat last Friday the details of Karma (KRM) coins held by 19 users on the platform.

According to the report, the message contained the users’ email addresses as well as the wallet addresses and private keys to the KRM in their accounts, which grants access to anyone with the information.

Thankfully it was only 19 users.. (I'm sure it sucks for them but atleast it wasnt more widespread).  The scary reality of 2018 is not only do you have to be responsible for your own data, but you have to be responsibile for who you share data with.. companies are grossly irresponsible at times, or even purposely malicious in rare cases.

This is a nightmare for Korean investors, so many hacks over there and it's only south korea! Does it mean they are incapable of securing a decent exchange or that they are constantly targeted by north korea

19 users and a value of $620,000...that's an average of over $30,000 per user. Wish I was one of them. Can't see anything that says anything was actually stolen due to the mistake, so looks as though they might have got lucky, but yet another reminder that it is not a sensible idea to leave investments on any 3rd party platform.
