How viable is PoW for new coin?

Which is why some altcoin users then share their database, to avoid the whole painful process of verification (or, users can use only SPV nodes, but still, someone has to run a node, to serve them properly).

I think not many people run nodes for pow altcoins.

Exchanges probably do, as they shouldn't trust a third party. But I don't see why regular people would run a litecoin node or a btg node for example.
