Revelo Intel CEO robbed, personal and company's cryptocurrencies stolen

The CEO of Revelo Intel, Nick Drakon was attacked. The company's coins and his personal coins were demanded for in the presence of his wife and 8 month old child.

It’s been almost 4 years since I entered the crypto space as a somewhat “public figure” and my time here has been mostly fantastic. I have met hundreds of interesting and kind people, some of whom I now consider great friends.

My interactions with 99.5% of folks in the crypto industry have been overwhelmingly positive and productive. It’s been a pleasure to have chatted with some of you online, met some of you in person as well as doing business with some of you.

There is a dark side to this industry though which is quite sinister. Anonymous bad actors operating in the shadows are constantly waiting for opportunities to inflict pain and suffering while enriching themselves.

I was recently targeted, surveilled and robbed by a highly sophisticated group. This was an in person attack where my wife and 8 month old son were threatened.

The group was specifically interested in crypto assets and knew the deposit addresses belonging to the crypto businesses I operate. I was forced, at gunpoint, to log into a number of crypto accounts and transfer funds out.

The funds stolen comprised personal funds, Revelo Intel working capital & retained earnings, as well as Revelo Ventures (an investment syndicate) funds for deals awaiting settlement.

The vast majority of stolen funds belonged to me personally. There is some evidence to suggest that someone in the Ventures syndicate is either part of the group, or passing information onto them.

He has resigned from being Revelo Intel CEO. We should be very careful these days. As more people are knowing cryptocurrencies, kidnappers and robbers that are knowing about it are increasing. Or the CEO is lying and setup everything that happened?

There is always the possibility that everything is staged, but it is unlikely that someone would do this in front of their family members - and considering that the case has become public, the police know about it and are certainly looking for the attackers. What is somewhat strange is that he had access to the company's funds on his personal computer, which is a completely unnecessary risk.

People like him who are publicly exposed should ensure much greater safety for themselves and their families, and the question should be raised here, how did the attackers get into his home in the first place?

sounds like someone is really good at tracing funds or could it be that someone from the company itself tip those robbers? this is not the first time to have happened though. but this time the victim is a CEO, robbers definitely got their big pay. hope they are caught and funds going to be recovered.

Yeah, it could be stage. But take note that it also gotten his personal funds and money of the company itself. And it mentioned that people in the company itself could have played a role. Maybe they provided information to the robbers and so this is the angle that they should look at as Drakon could point out his suspect in this case.

Good thing is that no one was harm in the robbery, his family is safe specially his 8 year old son. So this could be another lessons to some CEO of crypto related platform to be very careful and make mitigations specially their company's fund so that it won't be easily stolen from them.

Does he carry company assets around in his device, why would he do that, i know he said that majority of the funds stolen were his, but some was for the company and he should not be carrying it around.

This is obviously an inside job, someone in their company is behind this, once people know you have crypto, a lot of it, there is a huge risk of a $5 wrench attack.

Quite scary indeed, this is why you should never mention how much crypto you have, and if you have enough money to be worth of getting robbed like this, its smart to probably hire a security guard as well. There is absolutely no coming back from this, even if they somehow catch the people who did this, there is basically no way to get the money back and even if they somehow magically do that too, which is near impossible as it is, its also very important to remember that the memory will not be gone. These two people will live rest of their life remembering the time they were robbed at gunpoint.

People who are under the assumption that cryptocurrency can be a lot safer and harder to be stolen from holders can be mistaken as proven with this story. In fact, I would say it is now easier since there is no need to bring a bag for the money as things are done electronically, of course. Right now, public figures in this industry should be careful with their security and must not assume anything as their very lives and that of their families can be at stake, not just the coins and the tokens. We are indeed entering a new era right here...a new era of robbing people.

It's sad to see criminal keep abusing irreversible aspect on cryptocurrency. Although assuming he's not lying,  how come the company doesn't use multi-signature address or another approach which force agreement from several party in order to move company's money/coin?

Yeah, that is one mitigation risk that I'm also thinking. That should be the standard practice of a company, one from the CEO itself and then others signature from another high ranking officer of the company itself so that if one is compromise, it won't be very easy from the criminals to extract their crypto.

In any case, if there is someone involved here, they should need to look at it as well.

Yeah, it is not good to make public your crypto holdings, but i don't think that is the case here, he was the ceo of the Venture, until he resigned after the attack, which in itself is questionable.

So my point is that he didn't have to be loud about his crypto portfolio to be attacked, if it was an inside job, like i think it was, then a member of the venture would easily know that he is in custody of crypto belonging to their business, and should have some of his too.

I feel as though people with a lot of money, as in millions of dollars worth, can and should definitely hire private security to protect them as it would mitigate cases like this. And they would have no trouble paying them at all, and you won't even have to worry about gangs of people attacking you in your house, so long as you have enough guards.

It's obviously known that wealthy people and publish figures are always a target to bad actors of the society. Every respected member of the society knows that the society usually have corrupt and bad individuals, that's why so many respected individuals are very conscious of their personal security and that of their family.

Just this morning as at the time of writing this comment, my colleague at the office just informed me that his brother was attacked and was shot on his hand. That's to say bad actors are always in every society.

Public figures like Nick Drakon knows that security is paramount to someone of his status and is supposed to be more security conscious, although some of those robbers are very smart and before they attack, they make sure they have find out about all the loopholes of the person they want to attack.

This just tells us to he very careful.

That's definitely weird, but least now the customer and investor know poor management of company's funds.

I also wonder about it, but for better or worse it's common for CEO to resign when he or his company doing poorly.

It's so hurtful to hear that now robbers are looting people's crypto at gunpoint. A few days ago there was similar news in which some robbers looted Israeli tourist's crypto at gunpoint, and most of the members said it could only be the tip of someone inside that group. There can be other possibilities, like how robbers come to know they have crypto assets.

This is also the work of someone from inside who gave the tip to the robbers. This is so bad, and we should keep our crypto lives secret, but crypto business owners can't do that. Why are we not hearing any news that robbers looted the bank account of some person at gunpoint like they robbed Revelo's CEO at gunpoint?
