playing to just waste their time is rare to crypto users. they have the incentive which is also their goal in playing. if there is any, i don't know what his goal is. maybe those are just the ones that wants to waste time.

And if crypto user just want to have fun or waste time, there are many other better or more engaging games out there. I don't expect anyone actually enjoy "playing" tap-to-earn game out there.

They probably don't consider tapping their screen as a real game ;D I've seen some video of a kid do it on multiple devices and you can tell there's no passion/enjoyment in that. It's driven by the fact that there's money waiting for them after all that tapping.

For most of the big guys I know, one stand out hobby they have is playing video games. Some say it helps them escape problems. They seek companionship and relief with the virtual engagement that gaming offers them.

Meanwhile there's excitement for crypto enthusiasts with the innovation of blockchain gaming and its play-to-earn features where users earn in-game crypto currency which are converted into fiat. For instance, Engines of Fury and other gaming projects have seen where tokens are rewarded as a bonus to users.

With popular gaming projects like Sandbox, Gods Unchained, Axie Infinity, Decentraland, I've been wondering if there are people who simply play virtual games just for the fun of it with no interest in getting rewards in crypto that could be converted to cash.
If the game mechanism is more inclined to pay to win, and there is crypto that can be exchanged to FIAT back and forth so that the game also has a play to earn function, usually the game statistics are not complex ... and that's not fun enough for me because it's not balanced between free players vs paid players ... for example Axie Infinity which I really don't like. Paid players only need game publishers or platform owners to be able to develop.

However, there is also a Mir4 game that is connected to the $HYDRA cryptocurrency, there it requires players to grind to become great players ... and that's where the character building process becomes something challenging because paid players always need free players to develop ... in mir4 I can play for my own fun, while in axie infinity I can't ....

So it really depends on the game being played too.

That's about what i expect. And such people usually would be disappointed since they would receive less token/coin than promised or price of the token/coin is far lower than they expect.

playing to just waste their time is rare to crypto users.
My experience has been quite different as vast majorify of people that I know IRL that are into crypto are also gamers who still play. Gamers and crypto were close from the start, which makes sense since mining was important part and who else is better at it than gamers with their powerful rigs?

I personally tried some P2E games but in the end it turned out to be a total waste of time so we all went back to classic gaming with no earn mechanism and found some other ways to earn crypto.

Usually crypto games are not that gud in terms of - gaming - ;D Thus, spending time in them just for the game - is hard. Everybody only ventures there for the money

I am only active on one crypto game that being dcity on hive blockchain, it's fun game which I enjoy playing and rewards are extra, rewards definitely played part early on to get started with it though. Other than that, i play regular video games.

Yes, sometimes games with the play to earn label make gamers' expectations higher to make the game as another income... however, games without the play to earn label are more reliable in providing income to the game farmers... in some games that require resources to strengthen the character, and RMT (Real money trading) is allowed in the game, usually have more potential to generate money for the players...

I have many friends who play games every day to earn money by selling gold, items, character accessories and so on... it is really profitable because the ecosystem consists of rich people who are chasing the best title, and farmers who are from the money-making community through games by looking for resources to sell to the rich people.

If you're not a gamer, it's probably a waste of time when you try, but for gamers, it's precious time because it brings them great satisfaction. Because their passion is here. Especially if it also provides a source of income to them in a way that they know.

But for others, even if they don't get any money from it, as long as it's important to be happy, it's fine with them; that's because of the addiction that also exists in their personality. This is the thing that I also notice in them sometimes.
Try what? If someone tries to play games, it is no problem at all. You don't need to be real gamers to try games. We can try games at any time we want. Some people play games for fun, other may play for money. However, everyone can enjoy the games, games is a prt of entertain industry.

Everyone should have their own ways to avoid addiction. I also limit my time to play games to avoid addiction. Anyway, it is not only about bad thing, we have good thing in game industry now. With crypto, we can earn money easily by playing games now. We don't forget this part as well.

But don't choose the wrong game... because now there are also many crypto-based games but actually it is more profitable for developers... some game concepts are pay to win so that a fair ecosystem is not created for free to play users... in my opinion it is still difficult to integrate real finance into a game with a fun basis..

Games like Axie Infinity, I'm sorry, I don't like that game... it's not a fun game, everyone is there because they like money, not the game. And I think there will be a lot of crypto games with concepts like that... present because the financial side is more interesting, not the fun side.

Of course there are still some, for people who just want to have fun, but if people know crypto, maybe they will choose some games that can make money, not just playing and having fun.

I will never take crypto games for fun when I can make money, even th so-called video games players get mad when their profile get deleted or something happened to their accounts. Their games are mostly for entertainment purposes but they don't joke with the money involved, and you expect me to play for fun when I can bank on my crypto.

If I have a way to win more with casino and crypto games, I will do it every day twice on Sundays and convert all of them to Bitcoin, that way I know I'm having fun and my Bitcoin wallet will be getting bigger.

Of course there are still some, for people who just want to have fun, but if people know crypto, maybe they will choose some games that can make money, not just playing and having fun.
At the moment, I haven't seen any truly engaging Web3 games. The devs of crypto projects aren't professional gaming devs, they don't know how to create a fun game that's compelling enough to attract people. They only think about tokens, they want to profit from players by selling NFTs.

Flappy Bird is being revived, I think game developers could bring this game onto the blockchain and players would watch ads while playing, then they could use their points to participate in lucky draws. Devs could also earn money from mini-ads instead of several minutes of ads like in many current games. This idea could be implemented based on many other classic games that are very familiar to 8x and 9x gamers.

Re: Anyone Still Gaming just for the Fun of it?
« Reply #29 on: September 20, 2024, 08:31:14 AM »

I totally agree.
Every game I saw myself slapped with crypto or web3 terms was a rocky experience, or it was good purely because it copied other games (for example: Backwoods totally copied the concept from Brotato, which copied it from Vampire Survivors with their own gimmicks).
I hope this will change as time goes on.
