Since OP doesn't bother adding direct link to the news, i'll just respond based on what he shared.

Impersonating as customer service from certain company isn't nothing new. The scammer probably found him email address and phone number from one of leaked website data. Although i doubt the scammer actually reveal how much they steal or how he do that, while he could just end the call and do something else.

Only newbies are likely to fall victim to these schemes. If I receive an email from this scammer, the first thing I need to check is the sender's name to see if it came from a legitimate site, such as Coinbase, but if not, I know I am dealing with a scammer. Instead of going to the scammer's link, I immediately reported it as a scam attempt and emailed him that he was attempting to scam me. After identifying him as a scammer, they usually stop chatting and never return.

I have had many similar experiences, and nothing has changed in terms of their strategy for luring victims into their traps.
I'm sure most of us here won't be easily fall to this trap but I am sure newbies that don't have much knowledge about scam schemes like this can be easily fall to this trap.

It seems that not only beginners can be affected by fraud, especially now that there are many modes of fraud, and it can be said that fraudsters are always updating new ways to cheat.
being more careful is the main key in the digital world

If those affected or still become victims of this type of scam are beginners or lay people who are not familiar with crypto, that is still quite reasonable.
They are not always newbies and if i remember correctly, in the video the scammer made mention of that, sometimes they are experienced people that should know better than doing what a scammer tells them over the phone. The first point in avoiding this kind of scam is not to store funds in any exchange.
