Member of UK Parliament Calls for Using Bitcoin to Pay Local Taxes

Eddie Hughes, a conservative member of Parliament for the Walsall North Constituency wants the citizens of UK to pay their utility bills and local taxes by using Bitcoin.

In his opinion, this initiative will become a serious step towards mass crypto adoption in the country.

The Conservative politician, who describes himself as a "crypto enthusiast with amateur knowledge", is also urging fellow MPs to gain a better understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain – the technology behind it.

Mr. Hughes’s comments come on the back of news that the US state of Ohio has launched a scheme to get businesses to register with a website that will allow them to pay corporate taxes with bitcoin.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), which is the British charity organization, already accepts Bitcoin donations. Hughes said that the RNLI was one of the first organizations that began viewing Bitcoin as a payment option in 2014.
