When we think of Dubai, Arab billionaires, 6-star hotels and impressive skyscrapers come to mind. But did you know that there are plans to turn Dubai into the first blockchain city by 2020?

Smart Dubai CEO Dr. Aisha Bint Buti Bin Bishr believes that the city is in an excellent position to become a full - fledged blockchain and crypto epicenter, a fully integrated "smart city" with technologies in the next couple of years.
Blockchain Smart city in UAE
Smart Dubai is the organizer of the Global Blockchain Challenge, which is a blockchain-related competition aimed at finding the most innovative startups from around the world and bringing them to work in Dubai. Dr. Aisha Bint Buti Bin Bishr said some very positive words about Dubai's potential for the cryptographic business:
Dubai has established itself as the best place for innovators and entrepreneurs in the blockchain industry. Guided by the vision of our leadership, the Emirate has become synonymous with the bold use of avant-garde technologies and their use to create an advanced, coherent and holistic urban experience for its residents and visitors.
Attracting some of the newest and most innovative blockchain startups in Dubai is part of a larger plan called the Dubai Blockchain 2020 Strategy.
The world's first government with blockchain
The plan was originally announced by Smart Dubai and the Dubai future Foundation earlier this year and is committed to turning Dubai into the first blockchain city by 2020.
The next round of the Global Blockchain Challenge will be held at the Future Blockchain summit on April 2-3, 2019 at the Dubai world trade Center. The competition is a joint collaboration between Smart Dubai and Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA), which is an initiative of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF).
Successful startups associated with blockchain, which will pass the preliminary stages of the competition, will be invited to implement in Dubai with DFA and will get an idea of the UAE culture. The three winners will also have the opportunity to sell and market their products and services in Dubai. The winner will receive $ 20'000 in cash and the second and third places will receive $ 15' 000 and $ 10 ' 000 respectively.
The Dubai Blockchain of the future summit in 2018 brought together more than 8 ' 000 participants, 130 cryptocurrency-related startups and more than 140 speakers, and this year's event promises more of the same. While it seems unlikely that Dubai will be the first city to use blockchain by 2020, their ambitions and economic strength will definitely give an advantage in the pursuit of blockchain technology innovation.
