Apple uses blockchain to produce products
« on: February 23, 2019, 05:17:31 AM »
When you think of Apple, you think of iPhone, iPad, Macbook or even privacy. You probably don't think about the problem of conflict minerals used in the manufacture of such devices, and how blockchain can help the supply chain in this regard.

The technology giant from the US has filed a report to the us securities and exchange Commission that it is studying ways to implement the blockchain in one form or another.

Reading between the lines

Apple filed an application titled " conflict minerals Report; Summary of Apple's responsible sourcing obligations." In the report, Apple did not say in any way that it is implementing blockchain for any of its operations, the company mentions the use of technology at the production stage.

For example, Apple said in a statement that last year it supported the development of certain industry-wide standards for the responsible mineral resources Initiative (RMI) Guidelines from the Responsible Business Alliance. An excerpt from it reads:

In 2018, Apple headed the Board of the Responsible Business Alliance, was a member of the RMI Steering Committee, continued to participate in the European partnership for responsible mineral extraction, and was a member of the management Committee of the public-private Alliance for responsible mineral trade.

Apple has also participated in several working groups of the RMI, including the working group on tin, gold and other minerals, but not limited to; team interaction with the ironworks; the team on the use of the blockchain; and the team report templates for minerals.

This news appeared recently, when the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT), said that "in 2019, the blockchain will begin to turn into a commonplace."

Blockchain and human rights

Apple boasts that it is" deeply committed " to the protection of human rights. The company works with its global network of suppliers that support the production of mobile communication and multimedia devices, personal computers and related accessories.

Apple has inventions that do not apply to gadgets. Such developments include a risk readiness assessment tool developed in 2016. It assesses risks in its supply chain beyond those associated with conflict minerals. This includes such risks: Social, Environmental, human Rights.

The company's efforts include ensuring the well-being of those involved in the supply chain for the technology giant. Apple is also committed to protecting the locations where the materials are mined. According to the statement, Apple's standards for suppliers involve the use of minerals in their products that "do not directly or indirectly Finance armed conflicts and do not benefit armed groups." The application clarifies:

In 2017, Apple took steps to make the RRA more widely available to stakeholders, including an international non-governmental human rights organization (NGO).

Apple began translating the RRA to RMI in 2018 to make the tool widely available. As of December 31, the results showed 265 uses of RRA.
