Pullback Over? Bitcoin Retakes $9K, Eyes Further Gains.

Having recovered from a five-day low hit yesterday, bitcoin (BTC) has potential for a move higher towards major resistance at $9,880, the technical charts indicate.

The cryptocurrency moved back above $9,000 in the Asian hours after the pullback from the recent high of $9,767 ran out of steam around the ascending (bullish) 4-hour 50-candle moving average (MA).

As of writing, BTC is trading at $9,251 on Bitfinex, representing marginal losses over the previous day's close (as per UTC) of $9,270.

A bearish follow-through to Wednesday's bearish outside-day reversal would have been bad news for the bulls, but BTC instead appreciated by 4.5 percent on Thursday, keeping them in the game. Had BTC closed yesterday below $8,765 (Wednesday's low), the bears would have had the upper hand for the short-term.

Bigger Blocks and Smarter Contracts: What's In Bitcoin Cash's Next Fork?

Bitcoin cash's next software upgrade may be even more ambitious than its first - and that's no small feat given last time it broke off from bitcoin in acrimonious fashion.

In fact, the update, announced in November and slated for May 15, packages together a number of features that all seem about helping the network process more transactions than the original bitcoin (while adding more variety to features). Perhaps most notably, the change will quadruple bitcoin cash's block size parameter from 8 MB to 32 MB, allowing for vastly more transactions per block.

But while that might sound aggressive given bitcoin's more limited approach, those who have been following the cryptocurrency might be surprised that such an aggressive shift wasn't pursued sooner.

Binance, Bermuda Ink $15 Million Crypto Investment Agreement.

Binance plans to set up its new global compliance center in Bermuda over the next few months, Premier David Burt has announced.

Speaking at a joint press conference on Friday, Burt announced that a memorandum of understanding has been signed, under which the Binance Charity Foundation will put $10 million toward educational programs related to the tech. An additional $5 million will be invested in blockchain startups.

On top of that, Binance will help the Bermuda government develop a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and blockchain, as well as establish a new office in the country.

5 More Payments Firms to Adopt Ripple's xVia Tech.

Five payments providers in Europe and Asia are set to use Ripple's xVia technology, the distributed ledger startup announced Thursday.

The company's new customers include U.K.-based firms FairFX, RationalFX and Exchange4Free, in addition to peer-to-peer currency exchange platform MoneyMatch in Malaysia and settlements company UniPay from the Republic of Georgia.

Using Ripple's xVia tech will help these companies expand their customer base, said Ripple senior vice president of product Asheesh Birla.

Danish Ice Hockey Stadium Rebrands to ‘Bitcoin Arena’ as Awareness Grows.

Earlier this year, the Rungsted Seier Capital ice rink in Denmark was rebranded to Bitcoin Arena by co-owner Lars Seier Christensen and billionaire sponsor Niklas Nikolajsen.

The two individuals that oversee the operations of the stadium said that they were keen on rebranding it to spread awareness of bitcoin. Nikolajsen emphasized that he and his partner were intrigued by the attention the stadium’s rebranding would bring to the cryptocurrency market and bitcoin, especially in a country like Denmark whose blockchain sector has not evolved relative to other regions.

Another PayPal Co-Founder Is Embracing Blockchain's 'Seismic Shift'

Sharing economy startup Origin has tapped a PayPal co-founder and early YouTube employee as its latest hire.

Yu Pan, who is also a former Google employee and the co-founder of Kiwi Crate, an educational subscription kit service for kids, is the company's newest research and development engineer, co-founder Josh Fraser told CoinDesk. His role will be to spearhead the research team as the startup continues to grow.

As previously reported by CoinDesk, Origin's open source protocol facilitates the development of peer-to-peer decentralized marketplaces that eliminate what it describes as "rent-seeking middlemen" in other sharing economy services like Airbnb.
