Why did we use ERC-20 standard? ERC-20 is a Token Standard - which is a simple list of rules that any Token issued on the Ethereum blockchain must follow.
Tokens are types of cryptocurrencies with different functions that represent an asset or are intended for a specific use that operates on the Ethereum blockchain.
