Iceland cuts power to new Bitcoin miners
« on: December 09, 2021, 01:06:03 AM »
Starting on Tuesday, no new requests for power from Bitcoin mining operations will be accepted from the country’s energy utility service.

National Iceland electrical company Landsvirkjun has cut the amount of power it will provide for some industries, including aluminum smelters and Bitcoin (BTC) miners.

A representative from the island’s power utility reported it has been forced to reduce energy allocations to southwestern Bitcoin miners and various industrial facilities due to a series of issues including a problem at a power station, low hydro-reservoir levels and accessing energy from an external supplier.

Just reading what is posted here is telling me that the reasons for lessening of the supply for Bitcoin miners has something to do with technical and supply issues and has nothing to do with being BTC miners...so this incident is not actually targeted and once the problems are overcome then they can return to normal. This is telling these miners that they must have alternative sources of energy aside from those being supplied by the established grid. Iceland is actually an ideal location for mining because the weather or climate is cool but then one must have reliable source of power otherwise there is no mining that can be done.
