Scam Airdrop target Cointelegraph's subscribers!

This type of scam has become widespread, exploiting well-known company names to lure victims into airdrops or rewards and then stealing their wallets.

We have talked a lot in the past about the need to beware of such false advertisements and click on suspicious links, but even now people still fall victim to this old type of fraud due to greed.

It is good that Cointelegraph immediately responded to the incident and warned their users about scammers to avoid more victims falling into the trap.

Good thing I am not in any way following or subscribing to Cointelegraph as I am not impressed a lot with their news style and gathering - anyway this is just my personal preference. This scam airdrop using an event associated with Cointelegraph is a big reminder to all of us of the need for people to really get educated and to always be questioning anything that come their way. In the past years, I have seen similar scams and they used to connect with well-known personalities or platforms so that more people will easily trust what they were doing. As what I learned, a scam like this will be asking someone's private keys to their wallet with the promise to get something sizeable in return...only to find out that they actually throw way their wallets to scammers to roast. Sadly, most of the victims can be newbies or those who are not so familiar on how crypto scams worked. I am not sure this will never be the last of many similar scam stories...expect more to come and expect scammers to be more creative.

For several months, I feel that their articles are written with artificial intelligence, as they are either duplicates or do not add new value, and they do not have filters to verify the authenticity of the news or its source, so they are a questionable source for exclusive news or those that may affect the market.

Thank you admin for providing information about this problem, this can be used as a lesson for the future if you get an email like this, even if it is an official email, we are  must look for more detailed information before pressing the claim logo in the email.

Same here. never took Cointelegraph seriously. besides they've lost their credibility now. like most of the mainstream news outlets.
but I am really sorry for anyone else who lost their money in this incident.
cointelegraph and any other company which caused all these loses should pay the victims from their own money because it was 100% a fault of them they didn't take their security so seriously.
They could've implemented a Disclaimer in their original newslatter that they'll never do any airdop at any scnario. that small disclaimer could've saved a lot of people.

Cointelegraph is a popular news media, I was big follower for this cointelegraph news from here I gather extensive information. But because of wrong publicity, I perceive them as hateful because they spread the news at a time when I was facing losses. That's why I chose another direction to gather news.

You won't believe me, but I was in the same situation you were in.  I also liked Cointelegraph even joined their telegram and pinned it on my mobile home screen, only source for all news was Cointelegraph. But after a series of fake news, I left it but that was not my big reason, the big reason was cointelegraph opposing Gaza and supporting Israel. I don't know what will be the reaction of people after reading my reply but it is what it is.

And after leaving Cointelegraph I moved on to other small telegram groups that share instant news from many different sources, they pinpoint small headlines that almost give the idea of the news, and simply give a source link at the bottom. I liked these groups and over time I have become more open to many different news sources and now I don't react to any single news until I get confirmation from different resources.

Thanks for sharing admin. We are in the season where scammers activities are on the high side and we need to be extra careful. It's a pity that over $580k worth of crypto assets were stolen due to the phishing link scam. The victims should mostly be beginners because crypto veterans should be able to know that there's no way cointelegraph would airdrop tokens to their subscribers. While we commend cointelegraph for quickly putting up a warning to their subscribers, they should also be more concerned how their security system got breached at the first place.
