CEO of Casa revealed how crypto scammers make you a fool
« on: November 28, 2024, 12:16:57 PM »

Nick Neuman, the CEO of Casa, posted on X about how he played along with the crypto scammer during a call to uncover their scheme. Basically casa is a Bitcoin storage solutions provider. The crypto scammer aimed to steal from wealthy cryptocurrency holders. They also targeted Neuman as a wealthy cypto holder. Neuman demanded that the crypto scammer had shared all the details, how they make crypto scam, is it really true or not it’s not confirmed. But in this similar process lots of people previously had lost their money.

The call started normally, with the crypto scammer posing as a Coinbase support agent. He told Neuman about a "canceled password change request" and directed him to click on a suspicious email link. When Neuman revealed his identity and started questioning the crypto scammer, the crypto scammer dropped the act but continued to talk. He openly shared how their operation works, boasting about making $35,000 two days earlier. The crypto scammer said they target individuals with crypto holdings worth at least $50,000, avoiding those who don't have significant assets.

If you receive this kind of unsolicited call, it is best to cut the call and block the caller immediately, do not even wait to hear what they have to say. How people still click on random links without verifying it is shocking to me.

I have nothing to worry about this scam because I ain't have much crypto with me but I am just wondering why the scammer revealed what they literally are doing when the CEO tell that scammer about himself? Anyways, I am aware about this kind of scam in crypto because this is not the first time I heard this kinda stuff online and this is quite common on emails, socmeds like X, FB, forums and anywhere else as these random people just shoot a random message with malicious links and that where victims might fall if not careful.

This method of scam is not new and I am also not surprised that people actually fall victim to this. Most people who fall victim to this either lack sufficient knowledge about how cryptocurrencies work or they lack total control over their emotions like greed and fear. Scammers understand that these things make most investors vulnerable, so they continue to use that against them.

I commend the efforts of all those who constantly expose these scam tactics to the public. These efforts will be saving at least one person from a scam attempt.

Crypto scams are something very common on social media platforms. And most of them are so obvious to point out but most people still fall into those scams.
Quite shocking for the scammer to expose himself as one after getting to know who he was about to scam. And also, a thumbs up to Nick Neuman for even getting to flow with the scammer to let the so called scammer know that he himself is aware of scams.
Maybe if Nick Neuman wasn't conscious about the scam then the news would have been "CEO of Casa, Nick Neumann scammed over $50,000"

i have not seen the video or an article about Nueman exposing the scammer.  i doubt he really knew all the info of these scammers. these guys knew they could also be doxxed. what Nueman knew is just their operation.

it makes sense to only target wallets with large amount o course. knowing who and doxing seem harder to do. if these scammers are looking into those leak data, then those ICOs longtime ago that ask KYC could be their source of info. theres always a chance that these scammers were once developers.

It's just hard to believed that someone will still fall for this trick. I mean we have heard this before, and we have seen warnings from everyone, and yet there are still crypto enthusiast who become victims? Why?

So probably the best thing is to really educate ourselves and self-awareness. Having a good knowledge will really help us a lot in this war. It's a wild wild west out there, and with that, everyone should really be very very careful on links or any other suspicious calls with regards to our crypto investments.

Only newbies are likely to fall victim to these schemes. If I receive an email from this scammer, the first thing I need to check is the sender's name to see if it came from a legitimate site, such as Coinbase, but if not, I know I am dealing with a scammer. Instead of going to the scammer's link, I immediately reported it as a scam attempt and emailed him that he was attempting to scam me. After identifying him as a scammer, they usually stop chatting and never return.

I have had many similar experiences, and nothing has changed in terms of their strategy for luring victims into their traps.
I'm sure most of us here won't be easily fall to this trap but I am sure newbies that don't have much knowledge about scam schemes like this can be easily fall to this trap.

They are not only victimizing cryptocurrency holders but also bank owners and those with huge funds on online transfer platforms. These people are not properly educated on how the scammers work, and they ignore their providers warnings of not entertaining messages that they received that included suspicious links.
If you're an investor, you have a responsibility to learn how to protect and secure your funds, and part of that is being calm and doing the right thing, which is to contact the support right away and confirm the latest communication they've sent.

If those affected or still become victims of this type of scam are beginners or lay people who are not familiar with crypto, that is still quite reasonable. because usually they will be very interested in the rewards given by the scammers, the lure of rewards that are so tempting and tempting. However, if the victims of the scam are people who have been in the crypto world for a long time, then that is too much. because the scam model is very common, even now there are various types of scams that are always only slightly modified and enter the crypto world. and we basically have to understand the characteristics of scams.

Even though you have a AI badge, it was a topic worth discussing but next time don't use AI and TBH I did not checked if it's even Not AI written.

Well, It's a wonder that a scammer open ups to a big holder and shared that they target investors of this level. I mean he must be a newbie or it might be one of their phsychological techniques to become friends of yours and then provoking you to click the link.

Phishing links and spamming is an old fashioned way to scam investors and on monthly basis someone is losing their funds to these scammers. They are making exceptional profits as well so why would they ever stop. We all should keep our fingers, and clicks under control and avoid even clicking on useless ads too.

I am glad that these scammers will not be targeting me anytime as I am not actually holding a lot of coins in my wallets so they can target other people who they know got what they are looking for. Sad to see many people being victimized by evil perpetrators whose business is to snatch cryptos from the victims. Now, this is one reason why anyone who is interested with cryptocurrency must learn first how to safeguard his newfound wealth and how to rebuff any scheme both new and old made to detach the coins from their rightful owners and holders. Education is always the key and I think that crypto platforms especially exchanges should dedicate a part of their sites for people to know the possible scams and schemes. I was once a victim of scams and hacks and I understood well that feeling of being a victim.

Re: CEO of Casa revealed how crypto scammers make you a fool

It won't be long they will target anyone as long as they could accumulate.  Just sending messages to 100k people and then a few let's say 50 people responds to this email by clicking the link, they still could get substantial amount to pay for their effort.

These scammers are not going to be choosy. The more people input their passwords, it's still profitable for them.
That's why he as CEO must warn everyone.

Targeting people with assets above $50k, that means they have crypto owner data which the owner may not care about privacy... here we see that our personal asset ownership should not be told to anyone, let alone publish it... that's really a bad choice...

The main problem of fraud in the cryptocurrency world is the lack of support from the relevant government, because crypto assets in some countries are not strictly regulated... besides the user's request to protect their own privacy, they should also understand the consequences that the government does not intervene when there is any problem.

As unfortunate as it may be, we must face reality and take responsibility for keeping our assets safe because the government won't assist us if we lose our cryptocurrencies. In most cases, once we fall victim to scams or mistakenly send our coins to the wrong address, such transactions are irreversible unless we can identify the recipient.

Rather than continually blaming the government, we should focus on safeguarding ourselves. One of the first things cryptocurrency holders should prioritize is gaining knowledge about cybersecurity. Scammers are becoming smarter every day, so we must stay ahead by keeping ourselves informed about the latest scam tactics. Most importantly, we should avoid engaging with unverified individuals or strangers in the crypto space.
