Tackling corruption in Nigeria from the family level
« on: February 19, 2025, 07:58:04 PM »
Corruption the the cancer that is destroying Nigeria as a country with the way things are now corruption has become a culture and a way of life in the country because in virtually all aspects of the country it's now a tradition to settle people in any office that you find yourself

But what is the main cause of corruption  in the country and where did corruption starts getting into the the mind of people especially the young generation of Nigeria that is coming up because looking at the younger generations of the country when it comes to the issue of corruption there is no hope for the country because the younger generations which is the hope of the country is even more worst

But for Nigeria to get it right in terms of tackling corruption in the country it is from the family level that this can be achieved because as children learnt takes place subconsciously and what ever these children see their parents and elderly people do around them is what they will grow with when the people they are looking up to as their heroes which are their parents and family members around them practice and talk about corruption as being a normal thing these children too will grow up with such characters

This is actually very true - if you take 20 children and ask them what they’ll do if they become the president of the country the first thing that they’ll tell you is “I’ll take billions of dollars from the office”, “I’ll use xyz amount of money to build house or industry” “I’ll buy an expensive car” “I’ll put my family members into high positions”, etc none of them actually think of the development of the country and this idea was gotten from members of the family when family sit together to discuss politics and neglecting the fact that they are in the presence of child who don’t know what is good and what is wrong they’ll pick up anything you say to them and that will become the new trend for them.

If corruption is tackled from the family then I’m sure some impact will be felt in the country - imagine building the idea that jobs should be give to those that are competent and not to people who are related to you because you want to please your family members.

Corruption the the cancer that is destroying Nigeria as a country with the way things are now corruption has become a culture and a way of life in the country because in virtually all aspects of the country it's now a tradition to settle people in any office that you find yourself.
The first problem is actually hope for change. Many of this victims of corruption are basically already tired, hence they've given up on the system already. In a case like this it's more like the only resolve is to walk their path since you can't beat them.

Another problem is mindset. Based on the frequent response and aura of the people around younger persons most of them end up generating zero positivity towards the system too. Nevertheless a friendly advise Agbe pls do add punctuations to you posts for easier reading.

The family is the first environment that the child is exposed to, and if a child has good upbringing from the family before introduction to the environment, it will be harder for them to adopt some characters from people around them. This is why the importance of good home upbringing cannot be overemphasized. If more families begin to take more interest in making sure that their children are not the corrupt individuals in this corrupt society, the number of corrupt persons would drastically reduce, making our society a much better place for all of us.

You are right everything about moral life starts from the family, but the society can easily teach you more than your learning from your family, because some people do say "if you can't beat them join them". Children learn easily from what is happening around them. My family is not corrupt but some of the children mindset are corrupt due to people they mingle with. Some parents don't also have the time to take proper care of their children morally.

If you’re able to teach your children good ethics from your house it will help them navigate through society that is corrupt.

I have seen children that grew up in society that is known for some evil stuffs for example a community where the girls are know to be involved in prostitution can have some children who are disgusted by the act so it all depends on how well you train your children and also how much your child is ready not to be influenced by the society.

Your actually right because inculcating the right mindset to the young generation coming up because children learn from what they see and hear this is the more reason that we don't need to do some certain things that are not morally sound and acceptable around your children because what you do around your children goes a lot ng way in shaping the characters of children that are growing up. Corruption is high in the country due to moral negligence that has been lacking in the country for a long period of time now

This is because the sort of attitude we take to the youthful generation determines the kind of persons the will metamorphosize into. Children emulate what is said or done by the adult people they come across and who are close to them. So, any action and decision we take should be made wisely because they will determine the way of their lives and the rules they follow. It should be noted that the role model of the society, especially in such aspects as honesty, integrity and responsibility, should be a desirable one. Many cases of corruption are recurrent due to the lack of moral education that is a cycle that may go round and round indefinitely. From these aspects in our daily lives, we can effect gradual change, for bottom-up change, as we always learn that great change begins from small steps.

The actual truth is that it takes a lot of discipline for them to be able to withstand the pressure outside the teachings given by their parents or guardians. Infact to a very large extent it actually depends on personal choice and resolve because you can also come across people who seem to have such good training but still change path at a certain age.

The situation of things In the country is part of the factors affecting people even within and outside the family level.

If you’re able to teach your children good ethics from your house it will help them navigate through society that is corrupt.

Exactly... It takes the grace of God to keep the good morales that you learnt from your parents in our society nowadays. That person must be a committed Christian, otherwise, he might not be able to. I have a friend whose father is a Pastor when we were in college, but his character outside when he's with us is alarming but at home, he behaves well.

Personal choice play a key role in the formation of what a child will turn out to be but the fact is that we can't take away the role of good parenting which is lacking in our generation today because I child that grows up in a family where the parents use iron hands in raising them will to a large extent have good moral values more than a child that grows up in a family where the parents are less concerned about the children, the role of good parenting in the developmental process of a child cannot be overemphasized

When we want to discuss this topic of corruption and the direction to start dealing with this problem if corruption, is not only at the family level per se, A lot has changed over time and most people have individualized corruption and it has become a systemic thing right now.

Family is no longer the only root of corruption lately, but individuals have made it their thing to become corrupted by all means and they make it their way of life and are not ashamed of that.

The minds of children are very fragile and malleable, it can easily be twisted or manipulated so that is why they should be taught good ethics at home this can enable them navigate through the ills of the society without being corrupted. There is a popular saying which is Charity begins at home, the best level to tackle poverty is at the primary level which is basically the family level, when this is done it will help curb the level of corruption in the society.

with the society that we find ourselves it's very hard to keep up with the right moral standards that was inculcated from our homes because there has been an erosion of moral level in our society, that is why it's difficult to see people with upright moral values that have the interest of the country at heart

The society is getting worse everyday and the leaders are not actually helping situations. Basically people have to definitely sort for other options to cheat the system hence most of them take corruption as that option. Corruption affects every damn thing from economy to even political and social affairs.

The change has to be a general thing but sadly none of the sides is willing to. The masses feel cheated and believe the only way to redemption is to cheat too.
