They all are volatile. But what differentiate bitcoin from those altcoins is it's ability to regain its value over time. If you watch how the market moves in relation with bitcoin price, you will know that must if those altcoins will not be able to survive without bitcoin. Also I usually advice newbies to stay away from mene tokens. Yes they might be profitable in a short time but same they can ruin you completely. So make sure to do researchs so you don't invest in something that carries too much risk.
Even though all cryptocurrencies go up and down much in price Bitcoin has shown that it can usually bounce back and become more valuable over time. You are also right that many other altcoins follow what Bitcoin does. It is like Bitcoin is main thing that whole market looks to.

Your advice to people who are new to crypto about meme coins is good idea. It can be tempting because they might go up in price very quickly but they can also make you lose much of money just as fast. It is important to do your own research where you are investing. You need to understand risks so you do not lose everything.

        -      They are both volatile, maybe just at the average level of volatility, then I just noticed that you didn't seem to have defined the exact difference between bitcoin and altcoins. Because in reality, they are both able to provide profit to any of us in this community of the crypto space.

But of course, they are also both worth studying before actually jumping into trading. Because they are both not easy to understand in reality
when we are conducting trading activities.

As we knew, altcoins generally is the alternative to Bitcoin, and there are no basis comparing Bitcoin with altcoins because altcoins are many in numbers and on different blockchain networks, while Bitcoin has its separate network. However Bitcoin/altcoins are volitile but the entire crypto market is well known to be driven by Bitcoin dominance factors.
Nevertheless, Bitcoin remains the preferred choice for many crypto enthusiast on trading/investing purposes, and i think Bitcoin has always been my choice before other altcoins on my holding portfolio.
