Can the Most Powerful Computer on Earth Hack Bitcoin?
« on: August 12, 2018, 12:06:33 AM »
Let me avoid the technical aspects to make things easy for all readers.

So someone said that America's NSA has this great computer(quantum computer) that could easily hack Bitcoin private keys. I really doubt his claim but I know for sure that certain computers like the most powerful Super Computers are within the reach of some of this Intelligence organizations.
Do you think such computers can crack any security codes put in place to make Bitcoin very secure?

I don't think you only need super computers to be able to hack bitcoin, it really entails a lot bright from tools to technical aspect all needed for one operation

Blockchain program was created by humans, so it's not impossible for humans to create some programs to hack private keys. There are reported issues about hacking and its happening in all over the internet. So it's not impossible though.

It's possible but realistically it's not happening.  Since the entire network validates things all simultaneously you would need something to affect every computer running nodes for bitcoin simultaneously, and this doesn't account for nodes that are offline at the time either.  As soon as the majority of the nodes show that these transactions are invalid they will be rejected.  The entire point of blockchain is that it's pretty much unhackable because there's no central point at which you can attack.  The network is distributed across all of it's users, and that's what makes it strong.

Quantum computer doesn't hack the entire network. He can pick up the key to access the wallet. The essence of his hacking in this.

Very good understanding and I will appreciate that.

It is true, in this world there is nothing impossible, because Bitcoin was created by humans and there is definitely a gap to open it, and the issue was solved by having a Quantum computer.
Hopefully my judgment is wrong.

It is so true that anything in this world that are connected with internet has the potential to be hacked because computers are made by human. That's why it is possible that Bitcoin private keys can be hacked.
