Elon Musk, the founder of electric car company Tesla and aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, just made a mysterious tweet about bitcoin that’s whipping up speculation across social media and the cryptocurrency community that it may be more than just a joke.
Elon Musk, a serial entrepreneur who’s no stranger to online and digital payments — Musk was instrumental in Paypal’s success back in the year 2000 and his views on bitcoin and cryptocurrency have been closely watched.
On Monday, Musk – one of the highest-profile Twitter users – said in a tweet via his verified account that reads: “I love anime.” The same thread saw him make another comment, about half an hour later, where he purportedly asked his followers if they want to buy some Bitcoin.
The image in question was initially developed by the anime character website, Cryptocurrency Girls, which has transformed famous digital currencies into anime.
Musk has been on many occasions impersonated by fraudsters, who have attempted to sell fake cryptocurrency giveaways to unsuspecting individuals. This time around too, the mention of Bitcoin got many wondering if Musk’s account had been hacked.
