So USA tariffs 200 countries.
The 200 countries do it back.
Every person in all those countries pays more.
I am USA so Italian wine cost more. Italian pasta cost more.
do this across all imports from 200 countries I pay say 1000-2000 more.
I blame trump.
those countries charge USA goods and Italians pay more.
all the governments get more money and all the regular people pay more.
Trump is actually bailing out all the governments in the world. plus everyone blames him as the sin eater.
I voted yes. I figure I will pay 3000 more a year in tariffs

The 200 countries do it back.
So the US imposes a tax on all the goods they import from foreign countries and the US citizens have to pay, how does it show the other 200 countries also do the same, they can import things from somewhere else, and it's the US citizens who pays more for the goods.
And speaking of other countries, if they can't source goods from any other countries so they will surely retaliate with USA and impose a tax to the exporters of US citizens which will cost US citizens too. Well, this is not good for anyone but for governments.

most every country is going to engage in tariff retaliation.
so i buy dates from turkey instead of 5 dollars it is $5.50
us gov grabs 50 cents.
turkey buys a cheese from wisconsin instead of 10 lira it is 11 lira
turkish goverment grabs a lira.
everyone buying gets hurt and blames trump.
but both usa government and turkish goverment grab a tariff.
just the poor and or middle class suffer as the rich can afford it.
https://www.paturkey.com/news/2025/simsek-u-s-turkiye-trade-deficit-reaches-78-billion-over-two-decades-18571/
right now turkey buys more from usa than usa buys from turkey.
so trumps tariffs will be harder on turkey citizens than on usa citizens.
but both sets of citizens will be paying tariffs.
it seems that 190 of 214 countries will be involved in the tariff war.
in the case of turkey
usa citizens lose usa gov gains
turkey citizens lose turkey government gains.
this is something the world has not seen in over 75 years.
-
Because Trump is the first to have fired this shot, I guess he figured the US citizen can last this tariff war. He saved a lot because of Elon's Doge and he will be asking protection money from the countries they support as well. He wants US to have a stable economy and to be able to do this, he needs money going to the government.
I guess OP has to earn more and spend less as well until Trump stops this tariff war.
But do you think what Trump want is that there will be no middle class left but only rich and poor?
-

Trump is actually bailing out all the governments in the world. plus everyone blames him as the sin eater.
Yup, the genius on it.
How about we do this, we just introduce a VAT of 90000%, so with every bread you buy you pay the government $1000 in taxes, all the state debt is gone in a year and then we are all happy. ;D
usa citizens lose usa gov gains
turkey citizens lose turkey government gains.
this is something the world has not seen in over 75 years.
This is nothing, wait till people lose their jobs because the rest of the world stop buying those goods and the ones that are still left are too expensive for...the people that lost their job. This is what a few cents do to an industry:
https://www.asianews.it/news-en/Garment-industry-in-crisis-with-half-a-million-jobs-lost-in-2024-62329.html
wait for April the 2nd. ;D
I used to envy you Americans for three decades, finally time for this:

It's not mad genius, it's selfishness on his part because all those tariffs he thought other countries will not respond or react but to his rude awakening he got the same dose of medicine and now everyone is affected because he didn't do his math thinking he will bullying his way to riches :'(
It's not too late to admit he f**ked up and reverse all this, already world economies are feeling the pitch can we go back to where we were.

Until they realize they to deal with potential economic recession and higher poverty rate.
Because Trump is the first to have fired this shot, I guess he figured the US citizen can last this tariff war.
I have doubt he actually think that. Some news report that more people rely on welfare/social security benefit.

Getting used to the way of the political leadership in such manners, we have an increasing tariff plan on the people, they have no option than to pay because they depend on such for their daily consumptions and usage, then i wonder on why we are then complaining about the inflation affection market price when we already know the sources to all these manipulations, they are simply using the people to pay or clear off their debts, we have no alternative on all these because we depend on them, isn't it why an decentralized economy is more perfect for use as what bitcoin had started with us.

It don't actually work the way you thought, if the US is paying more, why are the exporting countries retaliating by imposing similar high tariffs on goods going to the US,? It then means that these countries are also paying more.
Economically speaking, let me bring to your knowledge in little ways the effects of high tariffs, though it is on both countries involved, but these countries are more effected than the US. The effects includes:
1.There will be decline in consumption, increase domestic productions
2. Increase government revenue
3. Protect domestic productions and jobs
4. Protect national interest
Now, one negative effects of tariff war is higher consumer prices. However, on the current US imposition of tariff to some countries, the impacts of the tariff are on the exporting countries and less on the US economy.

yes squeeze the middle class.
maybe start riots
declare martial law
use the army to enforce laws and stay president for more than four years.
I think the world may be in for hard teams as it is realigning power.

The goal as what I have heard on the news was that US will not be dependent to countries in terms of resources and products needed which he said from the start that he wants to bring back the jobs to US.
If he can do this with all his plans materializing, I guess US will not suffer much. There may have recession but the people will survive because there are resources and something to work on.

also like I said every country will do tariffs back.
so if you buy a usa 🇺🇸 item you will be charged extra.
since trump came in back in 2016. I paid over 10,000 in tariffs on mining gear.
so i paid a lot already due to his older tariff policy
-
There are now reports that Trump might be easing on the tariff,
To that end: Following a Cabinet meeting Monday, Trump said tariffs on a variety of products will be announced in the “very near future.” Then, later Monday afternoon, Trump said “I may give a lot of countries breaks.”
https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/24/business/tariffs-stocks-trump/index.html
So maybe he realized that imposing tariff is such a bad idea that it just divided his allies and turn against him. Or it just back fire on him, bullying other nations is not very effective strategy.

there would always have been a pushback on his decisions he knew this everyone knew this when he first announced tariffs other countries also explicitly said that they would not just roll over and let usa do whatever they want without any consequences from their side
imposing tariffs for an extended period of time could have been costly and would serious implications on usa’s economy
-
I wouldn't call anything genius in what the current president is doing, because if we are honest, he is a very bad businessman and an even worse politician. A tariff war may bring some countries more income in the short term, but in the long term it will have serious consequences not only for the middle class but also for those who are the poorest. It doesn't matter to them how much a bottle of wine from Italy or France costs or how much a car made in the US costs - these people barely survive anyway.
If it weren't so sad, it would be funny - every week a new scandal from the US - this week we learned that the president's clowns are using some kind of messenger to discuss things that should be state secrets. It wouldn't be too strange if one of them hadn't invited (allegedly by chance) a journalist to join them in the group ::)
-
this is something the world has not seen in over 75 years.
It is indeed a global trade war, where governments are earning more, it is the responsibility of citizens to demand governments to publicize the usage of these extra tariffs they are getting, maybe in Turkey the president come up with some way to relax people even with higher tariffs by reducing taxes from electricity bills, maybe.
As without managing things, wars can start if went for the long term. What I think is, governments are smart if smart and educated people are there and being heard (most importantly) with them inside, things can become more easy. But if I speak about my country, things are upside down.

Each country will have to struggle on their own by the time global trade war happens. Its sad for a country that has less trading partners due to few products they can export. A country with less resources are often the ones that plunge to its worse.
But those countries that have been in the worse condition long before this trade war, I think they are used to it anymore. People starts eating just roots of palm trees to survive but they still going to be less affected by the trade war.

Well I used to be a history buff and it all looks like very hard times are coming.
For some reason whatever it is the musky trumpeter wants to tear down the USA government and remake it into his idea.
I kind of think we USA and a lot of the world will suffer over this.
It pretty sad to see what a person wants and gets can affect billions of other people in a harmful way.
I see it hurting a lot of people all over the world.

Oh yeah, 2008 will be a thai massage with a happy ending compared to what's next.
This on top of the thing that we got used to far better times than back in the 2000 era, but this will probably be a test for the new generation to realize how good this life they called shitty actually was and hw bad things can really get.

I don't know what's going on in Trump's head, but it's clear that these decisions are not in the best interest of American citizens, especially the middle class, as they are likely to bear the consequences of these stupid decisions.
Even wealthy industrialists won't be happy because their products will stagnate in global markets as a result of the imposition of additional tariffs. It seems that the only ones who will benefit from all this are the US governments, which will receive more money from the higher tariffs.
But in the end, everyone loses. This will not benefit American citizens or the American economy.

It can be good for the US citizen when the government makes money. Its going to restart the industrialization again in the country once Trump bring back the jobs. By that time, the hardship will allow people to learn and work tirelessly ;D
The hardship will always make men stronger mentally. The only we have to worry is avoid getting caught the wars of European countries which Trump may not get involve.

Bruh, just stop idolizing this guy before you lose any common sense.
Trump is trying to stay away from European "wars", while threatening Denmark with the annexation of Greenland as well as trying to do the same with Canada. Trump, who just ordered strikes on Yemen and wants to turn Gaza into a casino hotspot after deporting everyone, is staying out of wars?
Use logic for god's sake!

@Stompix, but Big Dony will make crypto big, and the US will be a crypto wild west where everyone can do whatever they want, provided they pay into the donation boxes of those who are now in power. I don't know what's going on in the minds of the people who still believe, but I honestly don't know what was going on in the minds of those who voted for that man.
As of today, we have another 10 000 people laid off in the healthcare system, the show continues...

You don't believe in the plan? ;D
Shamefully copied from Reddit:
Let me tell you something, folks—BITCOIN. WOW. JUST WOW. The profits? UNBELIEVABLE. Some people are making so much money they can’t even count it. They call me up—"Sir, I’ve never seen numbers this big, sir." And I say, "Of course you haven’t. Because we’re winning. We’re winning BIGLY with Bitcoin."
Some people? They didn’t believe in it. LOSERS. TOTAL DISASTERS. Sad! But the smart ones? The best people? They got in early. They held. And now? They’re rolling in so much Bitcoin, they’re swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck. I mean, it's just stacks on stacks on stacks—absolutely TREMENDOUS!
And the haters? Ohhh, the haters! They said, “Bitcoin is a scam.” WRONG. “Bitcoin is going to zero.” FAKE NEWS. Meanwhile, it’s at $60,000, $70,000—maybe more! Maybe a million soon! Who knows? Because when I look at Bitcoin, folks, I see ONLY UP. Straight up, like one of my perfect buildings. Beautiful buildings. The best buildings.
And the government? Oh, they hate it. The swamp doesn’t want you to win. They want control, folks. They see people getting rich, and they CAN’T STAND IT. But we know the truth—Bitcoin is about freedom, it’s about winning, it’s about absolutely crushing it like nobody’s ever crushed before.
So if you made Bitcoin profits? Congratulations. You’re one of the greats. A true patriot. And if you didn’t? Well… maybe, just maybe, it’s not too late. Because Bitcoin? It’s going to the MOOOOOON—and I mean a beautiful, luxurious, gold-plated moon. 🚀🚀🚀
Back to reality, the orange madman is going to send us back to 2008 if we're lucky, and if not, hello great depression, nice seeing history re-writing itself.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but I don't see any benefit to what Trump is doing for American citizens. What jobs will Trump bring back? And how will manufacturing in the country resume with all the high tariffs that will hinder imports and exports?
Yes, the only thing that's true here is that it will cause a psychological crisis for everyone, whether ordinary citizens or industrialists. In any case, there's no need to worry, because it seems there will be a lot of psychological crises that they will have to get used to during the Trump era. ;)

I can't remember who said it whether its Elon or Trump because the goal is for America not to be dependent on the products form other countries. The Chinese and all other countries may export products or not, but US will survive and most likely the need to develop products will encourage people to build and produce.
The advantage is still with US regardless of what other countries will do. However, US citizen will also experience hardship.

Look not a fan of Trump and typing this in the USA may end up getting me in trouble.
There is logic in annexing Greenland, but not Canada or Mexico or Panama.
Greenland can't defend their area against the inevitable Russian invasion.
So USA has to buy Greenland or give Denmark a ton of nukes.
If you were the USA which would you rather do?
My crappy little town in NJ, USA has 65,000 people and is 70 square miles.
Greenland has 56,000 people and is 600,000 + square miles.
As the North Pole and Greenland ice is being deliberately melted as I type Greenland will be an open space subject to invasion by Russia.
Do I like Trump's way of talking about Greenland nope, but I do know Greenland will need a plan for prevention of invasion If not the USA then Russia so here's hoping a sane one is created.

there is no perfect politician and we should be able to point out these mistakes for much more efficient governance

the very best example of trump trying to "stay away" from european wars is him meeting with ukrainian leader was it just this month or last month? i believe usa is trying to give some help to ukraine against russia

Phil, the logic in annexing Greenland as a precaution of a Russian invasion is like fortifying Salt Lake City against a Mexico invasion.
Russia has no deep water capabilities, it can't project force over a sea, the threat to Europe was always its immense tank and artillery arsenal, that's why the plans were to establish buffer zones. If by magic Greenland is occupied by Russia it can be done with only one thing happening first, the Scandinavian countries being invaded, and at this point Europe is so fucked up that Greenland is your last problem since now they would have a shot at the whole great Britain and Iceland too.
Second thing, why worry so much about Greenland and an invasion through the Atlantic over 4000 miles when you have just 100 miles of sea between Alaska and Russia? If anyone would like to invade North America, how would they do it?
Crossing the Atlantic with a fleet with no aircraft carriers and just two blue water battleships or ferry troops over 100 miles of water that can be protected by SAM missiles and bombers from land ?

Its been in some discussions in the other forum that US is interested in the trade route near Greenland. Its a trade route that US can gain control over those countries trading each other, if they have no business over that route, they have to make a way that its their business.
But then there are information that Russia already control large part of North Atlantic which in this harsh condition, they have facilities in that think ice area.

What damn traading routes?
There is no direct route that would go through Greenland other than one between Canada and Iceland.
Also, why the hell would the USA be in need of controlling the trading route that goes from any country to them?
They already control that by being the purchase, lol!
But then there are information that Russia already control large part of North Atlantic which in this harsh condition,
Lol, name me 1 mile of territory Russia controls in the North Atlantic!
They control as much water in the North Atlantic as they do in Kyiv. ;D

okay melt it all in 30-50 years and Russia has great access to the arctic ocean. As does Canada Alaska Greenland and Norway.
If my poor geography memory is correct Russia Alaska Canada Greenland and Norway border the Arctic Ocean
map shows that
(https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/03/29/ls85W.png)
I am not a Trump fan but it is obvious that he has decided letting the ice melt is the way to go.
if the ice melts both Greenland and Canada are subject to Russia's easy invasion attempts.
Canada is big decent amount of people and like Ukraine could likely resist Russia.
Greenland is 50,000-60,000 people that can not fight off Russia.
Also The map shows the winners if the ice melts.
I do not see China India Pakistan or Bangledesh gaining anything if the ice melts.
So back to my subject. but looking at my future analysis above.
world wide tariffs bail out all deficit govenrments as they all do retaliatory tariffs and everyone gets taxed like a motherfucker.
All people blame it on Trump.

Germany = As of September 2024, Germany's national government debt reached 2,977.2 billion USD that is 2.97 trillion
Brazil = As of December 2024, Brazil's national government debt reached 1,452.8 billion USD that is 1.45 billion
Saudi Arabia = As of the end of Dec 2024, Saudi Arabia's total outstanding direct indebtedness was SAR 1,215.9 billion (approximately $324.2 billion usd)
Russia = As of December 31, 2024, Russia's external debt was estimated at $290.4 billion and they continue to Lower it. Due to embargoes
I did 11 major players they owe over 50 trillion. All would be able to tariff back against usa and could lower debt while blaming trump

That's a good point you raise, as if one country have lesser resources and lesser friends then it will become their need and they will be forced to import and export things on higher rates and this will be a big burden on all the citizens of that country but to minimize it, the country at least can decrease the tax from some other field to make it easier.
Nah that's not true people will always be getting affected and we should not develop this thought in our minds because these political policy makers also think the same that people will get used to it but they don't know with one change in the policy how hard a life of a person can get.

There's always a broiling point and if time is right where people are united to solve the chaos, they can tip the government and just put someone who can manage to be the head like a Supreme Leader.
People may endure just about any difficulties, they just need a person who will put something in their heads, a plan because of course we are not getting used to it, we just endure.

okay melt it all in 30-50 years and Russia has great access to the arctic ocean.
Melt the ice and this happens
- New York, Houston, LA, all of Florida are under water
- St Petersburg and Volvograd (Stalingrad) are also flooded, the biggest 2nd and 3rd economic zones of Russia
- all of Russia's Siberian oil and gas fields are underwater
- There will be an open ocean between Tokyo and Atlanta as northern Canada will be underwater.
With all that, who will give a damn about Greenland?
Oh btw, only about 2 to 3 billion people losing their houses, do you still think that a trade route would be the major issue?

If it weren't so sad, it would be funny - every week a new scandal from the US - this week we learned that the president's clowns are using some kind of messenger to discuss things that should be state secrets. It wouldn't be too strange if one of them hadn't invited (allegedly by chance) a journalist to join them in the group ::)
He's actually creating confusion between countries with his tarrifs and I wonder what push these ideas in his heads. He doesn't care what others opinions are and to me is actually bad for a world leading country. At first I taught the tarrifs were ment to help regulate some errors in the country's economy but nope, he's just trying to cause a fuss.
-
Well the US government gets their cut in this scenario.
I don't believe that they've ever truly cared about the American consumer (those NoVa beauraucrats!) and they're the ones going to be eating shit from all these tariffs.
Not most of the other countries since they literally can't afford to buy anything from the US. That's why trade deficits exist. It's nonsensical to try to eliminate them all for this reason.
-
He's actually creating confusion between countries with his tarrifs and I wonder what push these ideas in his heads.
The wind while spinning between his ears as there is no brain matter to stop the whistling? ;D
The guy has no idea how to run a business, let alone a country, so his main plan here is to make everyone suffer and hope for a miracle that the other guys blink first, and even if they don't, he has a cushion full of money and he is only 4 years in charge of this shitshow, if things go worse he will just say it was the NWO or some conspiracy group of Soros that ruined his plan.

- I just want to adapt my answer to the op's question to the topic, I can say that Trump's Tariff war was a smart move he made. Trump is good at making decisions and thinking, how did I say that?
Because if we just research carefully, if the US fights China through physical or literal war, the US forces will not win against China because China's armed forces are much stronger. Now, because Trump saw that, he thought of these tariffs that even I don't think he can defeat China just through this without killing people. So for me Trump really use his brain.

All of Trump's moves are mostly against China, to destabilize China economy. China has come out openly to say to the US, that they can't beat them in any way they should think of, being it economically, military and technological powers.
Few days ago, China hits back on Trump, by imposing 34% increase on all US goods.
-
So USA tariffs 200 countries.
The 200 countries do it back.
Every person in all those countries pays more.
This causes a big drop on all stocks around the world, and create a bad impact on the crypto market.
although the US only imposes only 17% tariffs, which is way lower than our neighboring country,
There are still bad effects, especially for crypto holders, where many of our portfolios made a huge drop—mine was 20 to 40%; it was kind of ugly to look at but this is not surprising in a highly volatile market.

trump has said that he feels that it has been too long since the us has been taken advantage of by other countries and china seems to be the biggest suspect of them all which is why trump really hit china hard but china partnering up with other countries against usa might harm the us more than theyd expect
i know this might seem like some petty wars between the nation leaders but all this fight has some serious consequences to the economy and it will not be pretty

Firstly i believe that trumps tariff war will be very disadvantage decision for all over the world. In this reason many establishing country could not accept this tariff war in this moment. So i think that it will be very negative effect for all over the wore. Because if we want to following in our country, we can see that our country already face 36% tariff in this time. Which is one of the best difficult for our country. But if we follow in russia, we can see that trump hasn’t any extra tariff in this country. So i think that it was mad genius for trump.

Let's see, China has responded with Trumps tariff and now Trump has given his ultimatum to China. For sure, I don't think that China will move an inch here and so with that there will be a big tariff wars once again.
It's going to be survival of the fittest now, maybe in the next couple of months we will see the effect specially in the US if they can still fight and go punishing a lot of countries with huge tariff. Or it will be too much as they are going to suffer, hence he need to tone day.
-
This mother fucker destroying people's lives. I don't know why people voted for him. He did too badly in his last term, but people forgot about it and elected him again. The government is already getting a lot from my earnings, but these tariffs things will charge more and more. Who is going to stop him if the other government does not talk about it?
Why do other countries' governments even talk about it if they get the benefit of the tariff? I don't think I will ever identify myself as middle class. I consider myself a lower class. Trump sucks, the government sucks.

Many countries will retaliate, but only a few (the ones, with good economic situations) will not retaliate. I did not know the USA did not impose tariffs on Russia so I searched and found out why, and also there are a few other countries excluded from the tariffs list due to sanctions on them but still USA imports fertilizers from Russia and did not impose tariffs on them, with an excuse that, they are at war with Ukraine and we won't trade with Russia haha what a Joke.
Well, the motive was to reduce the dependency on foreign products, and increase production within the country, increase employment, but we all know with little loss comes more profit, like in Detroit an industry closed, due to tariffs, 600+ workers are now unemployed, but this little lose, in future will create more, opportunities for these workers, as once the dependency on foreign products will decrease, the production will increase in US based factories, and to meet that they need more workers, maybe better rates, I guess.

Yeah, this is also part of the plan Trump is moving forward with. We're seeing many countries wanting to negotiate and compromise with the US to avoid excessively high tariffs, including South Korea, Japan, and the EU. Only China is still maintaining its tough stance, but I believe they will also have to give in soon because they are also facing a lot of difficulties from deflation.
I understand Trump negotiation tactics: he often sacrifices short-term benefits to achieve long-term economic and political victories. I'm looking forward to the global economic recovery after this black swan event, that will be an opportunity for crypto to grow in the second half of 2025.
-

Make crypto great again?
Do this and that and price to the moon?
Actually, funnier than that is the denial in some that still think this moron is somekind of genius and this will turn out to be a good thing.
But time will solve those problems too, a few years of economic recession and tey will finally realize a moron is still a moron!

Still 4 years for Trump to turn the US from bad to worse, Lol.
Gonna be hard for them, but hopefully they will find that Bitcoin is the only hope they got, put all their wealth on it and let the money grow. :D.
This is like a deliberate attempt on Trump, tariffs war and everything = NWO.
-

Make America Great Again? That's the meme coin that got attention and instead of making America great again he's just playing with the lives of normal American citizens. That's politics, but this time because of him so many people and companies have lost Billions.

I saw the video where he was with Benjamin and the journalist was asking questions to both of them.
Trump told the Journalist that the European Union did pretty bad to America. They are not buying any cars or agricultural products from them, but they are selling BMWs and other cars to America. This is not going to happen anymore. They have to buy Energy from the USA now.
It's a threat, and he is going to make it forcefully.
Also, If Iran doesn't listen to him, Iran will be in a bad situation. He is planning to move Palestinian people to some other country. It's like, it's not the Israel that is killing those people; it is the US.

And its seems that Trump has just started, God who knows what will be his next move to anger the Middle East or EU. It's just a matter of time before he pull something that bad that the market is going to crash like we are back in the 1980's crash. No, I don't think that he is making America great again, instead he started a fresh recession.

I agree with you, China is being tariffed more also that's why its maintaining a tough stance, although someone pointed out that if USA imposes more tariffs on China, the currency there, will start to devalue, so USA or other people could afford it to buy the Yuan, and then their products. I mean, 109% tariffs on EVs seem unfair, although China has better than the USA.
I hope this will pass soon, and the funny thing is, I did not realize till you said, it is a black swan event haha, So if we consider it a black swan event, which it is, then the second peak is surely going to explode, I am holding onto my loss too, as it is down 60% now. I hope the market will recover soon.

And what good will that do to us, look at what this moron has done to crypto prices in the last month!
Nothing good will come out of this, nothing, and if he isn't kept in check by his advisors and the threats from his own party, the mofo is going to ruin us all just because he is angry at the world.
He has spooked the market so bad that stock prices have resumed falling down while oil is again under $60.
He can come and say he will quit being president and he won't be able to make back what he has turned the world into.

There are many countries that will look at everything from their own perspective because their economic situation is good. Their industries attract attention. They can work from their own perspective and export. There are some countries that do not pay attention to what is happening in other countries.
-
Donald Trump is a business man and he knows what he is doing but this might not favour him because the Tariff is affecting the ordinary masses more than the politicians and their government. As it is, China is not giving up at anytime soon and they are ready to battle with US to the end though other countries are afraid to retaliate because of the fear of the attack. Trump did well in this first tenure and that was why the citizens of America voted him in again but if he does something that affects the Whole world and the citizens of America, even the candidate that will come from his parry will not win the next election.
-
well we can be sure people are having very interesting behind the scenes talks. In 30 to 60 days more will be revealed to us peasants.
-
Donald Trump is a business man and he knows what he is doing
Bruh, he inherited 4 casinos and bankrupted them.He bankrupted casinos!!!!! That's how great of a businessman he is!
He put tariffs on an uninhabited island, but at the same time he put only 10% on two islands that are part of the EU, so basically all Europe has to do is export stuff through there.
The guy is just mad!
-
Donald Trump is a business man and he knows what he is doing but this might not favour him because the Tariff is affecting the ordinary masses more than the politicians and their government.
That is the problem. When a Businessman has the power to change the world economy, but that change helps his business, he will continue to do it. Mr. Trump is imposing more and more tariffs, which will eventually change many people's lives. More tariffs mean more inflation and more inflation will make your work more and earn more money so you can spend more money.
He is a madman and barely cares about any criticism. His own people criticized him. But I don't think he cares about anything. He is doing whatever he wants.

He thinks that he is untouchable, but as others have said, he just created chaos in a world that is already very fragile. So from Russia to China he imposed this big tariffs and now they are retaliating to the point that Trump is not going to win in this war in the long run. He is is self-centered, so the more we criticized him, the more he will do the opposite. And look at what he has done, the US is already in the recession and this might continue till he is the President of the United States.

People from his own country will suffer this. I have posted this on the other forum. His own people are going to pay for this. If he thinks that imposing more tariffs will earn more money for his government, then he is right. But he is wrong if he thinks that other countries will export products without making profits. Even if those countries continue to do business with the USA, the people of the USA should know that now they will have to pay more money to buy imported products. No country will export products without making a profit. More tariffs mean higher prices, and the people of your country will have to pay for them. Not who exports it.
Suppose Bangladesh were exporting a polo shirt for $2 each. Now, after the tariff, they will export the same quality for $3 each. The people of USA will have to pay more to buy the same shirt.

This is where you're mistaken, he doesn't want to keep importing stuff, he wants to kill the industry that creates those exports by making them expensive.
Suppose Bangladesh were exporting a polo shirt for $2 each. Now, after the tariff, they will export the same quality for $3 each. The people of USA will have to pay more to buy the same shirt.
Or, they will not buy that many shirts at all. Let's look at the consequences:
- A few million Americans are wearing worn-out shirts
- A few tens of thousands of Bangladeshi workers are going unemployed
Who will suffer more?
-

What about the alternatives?
The largest foreign buyer of Bangladeshi garments is H&M, a Swedish retail giant, purchasing nearly $4 billion worth of products annually. Following H&M are Walmart (US) and Inditex (Spain). - Google
Maybe some people will be unemployed, but not on that large scale. If you have products that are cheaper than others, you will have customers. The customers will find you. But if you reach the customers, then it will be more helpful. The garment industry contributes a huge percentage (13-16%) of total GDP, and nearly 2% is from the US. Do you think this 2% will make people unemployed. Surely the export won't be stopped. Most companies will still export the products, but with more profits.
-
That’s a sharp way to put it — could be true. Tariffs often get sold as “protecting local jobs,” but in reality they hike prices for regular people while governments cash in on the taxes. So yeah, it can look like a global play where politicians win and the middle class eats the cost.
-

Anything beyond 100% is pure stupidity, and he just crossed that limit. He thought he could force other nations into trade negotiations with this ridiculous tariff, but it will surely backfire on him. China didn’t wanna play this game anymore, and as predicted, they retaliated immediately! Good luck to the Americans, their dear president made sure to make it's citizens suffer, and a lot of them! We mustn’t forget that the USA was built on cheap and free labor, and they might end up losing this benefit because of this trade war.

There are alternatives.
To make things easier, the world needs 1 billion shirts and the world produces 1 billion shirts. The moment Americans stop buying, the world produces 1 billion but only needs 900 millions, so the guys producing the extra 100 million will be unemployed.
Remember that in this situation, consumption drops, you can't find alternatives for your products unless you will put others out of business, so, for Trump doesn't matter who goes out of if it's Bangladesh or India or Vietnam, but some will do and in his vision is less money going out to that country.
Surely the export won't be stopped.
And are you willing to bet the livelihood of 2% of the country's population on this?
-
The tariff to China this time reaches up to 245% already. Seem to high for already and I think they have the right to also stop exporting to US because this would mean no profit for them anymore.
The advantage for china is that the world needs their cheap products and we are not able to find these from any other country but from them. And because they are not getting tariff sanction from other countries, they may focus more on those countries and not to US consumers.

Trump forgetting that China has history dating back to thousands of years. And that time, there wasn't any USA. China can survive well on their own without America. Even if Trump restricts all imports and exports to China and adds 1000% tariff, China wouldn't care. Because we may be able to survive without Americans products, it may be difficult for any countries to survive without Chinese products. And they are well aware of that! Trump started the game but China wasn't interested in playing it anymore! Best move by China IMO...they won't bend the knee.
At this point, he is punishing Americans not the Chinese. All this noise is leading to a great fall of the USA and Trump will be the man responsible for it.
-
I don't think it's a good political advantage so I wouldn't take it as a talent in what the current president is doing. A war is a very bad reaction especially for poor countries. It would be really funny to see a new scandal in the United States every week. This is a really difficult time for history, whatever it is, Musk the Trumper wants to tear down the US government and rebuild it to his own ideas. It's sad that what a person wants is what they get and the harmful things. I also see it hurting a lot of people all over the world and could do more in the future.

As long as your product is cheaper than others and provides the same quality or even better quality, you are always in demand. Trump imposed the tariff, which doesn't really mean Americans will stop wearing shirts. That's a stupid example. They would probably buy two shirts instead of three because it would cost a little more. Meanwhile, the exporters will earn the same amount of money by selling two shirts as they were earning from selling three shirts. The import-export won't be completely stopped. The number will be dropped.
-

American President Donald J Trump taking some Rash decision i think. He globally creating tariff war and many countries also taking action against it. I think gradually it will happen a economic war. As a result America government even American people also will fall in crisis there has no doubt.
I think within short time Donald Trump administration will review that decision and withdraw it otherwise it will be very harmful for world economy.

Meanwhile, the exporters will earn the same amount of money by selling two shirts as they were earning from selling three shirts. The import-export won't be completely stopped. The number will be dropped.
Exactly!
But, you just said it, they only need to sell two instead of three, so instead of having three hundred workers, they will do with two hundred!
So, what happens to the one hundred that are no longer needed?
Trump forgetting that China has history dating back to thousands of years. And that time, there wasn't any USA.
Two corrections, China did not exist as a country prior to 1949, and the term China is Western, it never existed before Europeans.
Second one, the last time China pissed the western powers 1980 happend. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scramble_for_China) during the Century of Humiliations.

Why are you missing the simple math again and again?
Let's say they were exporting three shirts for $6.
Due to high tariffs, they will export two shirts and charge the same $6. Now they are exporting less, but making the same amount of money. They will sell the remaining shirts to another country and make extra revenue. No matter how you try to show your examples, that is not going to work. More tariff means more inflation. Basically, the people of the USA are going to face the consequences, not the country that are going to export products to the USA. Is it too hard to understand? If you are from the USA, wait and you will understand in a few months. ;) ;)

Wars are expensive! :'(
IMO, it's never about trade imbalance, or the tariff nonsense. Trump just wants to scare every country with tariffs, then get them to the table to negotiate and ultimately buy more American bonds to bail him out. Unfortunately, China isn't playing along this time...lol.
He was the one to start all this nonsense. He doesn't care about the people just his own benefit. What kind of president does the US have to face to now!!! A self centered one, i guess!

Bruh, how in the name of god are you going to create that additional demand in other countries?
That's the thing, demand will not explode anywhere else just because Americans will buy less.
Are you going to buy twice as many shirts as previously? Is anyone in the world going to buy an extra pair of jeans that they never bought before, just because America buys less?
Are you going to use twice as many condoms a year just because the US stopped importing them? ;)
Who is going to buy those products that Americans don't want anymore?
China exported half a trillion to the US, the entire GDP of Africa is 2.5 trillion, to replace that, you will need Africans to consume 20% extra and only from China, where are they going to get that money from?
A decade ago China had a spat with the US over pork, we in Europe got the short stick of it, overproduction and no market, we could have prayed just how you're now that suddenly Europeans would eat twice as much pork or....did what we all do and that is downsizing.
Basically, the people of the USA are going to face the consequences, not the country that are going to export products to the USA. Is it too hard to understand? If you are from the USA, wait and you will understand in a few months. ;) ;)
I'm not from the US, I am from Europe, and I know pretty much what a trade war means, but anyhow, you're on.
Btw

Why is freight collapsing since products would just be redirected to other markets?
Cause ...they aren't. ;)

Well, to make things easier, let's say the demand won't increase suddenly, and Bangladesh cannot export to another country. But as I said in my previous post, they would export two shirts instead of three due to the high tariff and sell them for $6. It was $2 each before, but now it's $3 each. So, it is the people of the US who are going to spend more money, not the country that is going to export the products there. Remember, the cost of production won't increase in Bangladesh because of the tariff. The cost will decrease because they won't have to produce three shirts now.

all the governments get more money and all the regular people pay more.
Trump is actually bailing out all the governments in the world. plus everyone blames him as the sin eater.
Yup, the genius on it.
How about we do this, we just introduce a VAT of 90000%, so with every bread you buy you pay the government $1000 in taxes, all the state debt is gone in a year and then we are all happy. ;D
Yes, I'm happy if the rates are suitable, but what about developing countries, will they be financially secure, especially if the commodities sent or received are not comparable to the existing taxes?
