Title: Can Crypto be more valuable than gold ?
Post by: Bobcrypto on July 30, 2018, 05:30:40 AM
I have thought that one key advantage crypto (bitcoin, litecoin, Dash, monero etc.) has over gold is that its supply level is fixed and transparent, but can this or features make crypto more valuable than gold?

I still strongly believe that crypto will be more valuable than gold, and especially high priced coins such as bitcoin, eth, litecoins and BCH, all have a very good future.

Gold has also fix supply but then the difference between crypto and gold is that we know in advance how much is the total supply of a coin while in gold, there are still miners out there looking for gold so we don't know yet the exact amount of gold in the world. Regarding being valuable, yes crypto is more valuable in terms of prices since gold has a thousand dollars in price while crypto specifically bitcoin is more valuable.

I don't necessarily think rarity always dictates worth though.. but I do agree what if somehow someone finds a cave or 3 full of gold, it may hurt price in an unpredictable way.. at least like you said with cryptos, you know what you are getting ahead of time.

They are two different things... one is physical (GOLD) and crypto not and one is very stable (GOLD). Crypto have great potential grow so investment in one of them has very different purpose.. hedging for gold, speculating/invest for profits for crypto

I think that the crypto currency can be valued more expensively than gold for one reason: gold reserves are unlimited, every day more and more of it is extracted, while the majority of crypto currencies and, above all, bitcoin, have a strictly limited amount. With an increase in demand, this limited number of coins will definitely grow in value many times!

isn't the price of gold been defeated by Bitcoin. For example:
1 Bitcoin: $ 7,000
1 Ounce Gold: $ 1,400

it is a change with an Ounce, different from Gram, because the average person around the world uses gold around 1-20 Gram

i dont think so! maybe it could be temporarily. digital money like crypto currency is just an imaginary money that solely depend on the people using the coin as an imaginary payment or whatever uses it deem to use. unlike GOLD that has physical apperance that could be use as a jewelry and of course as a good form of investment to hold over time because the value will surely appreciate over time.

In addition, i think that with little time, crypto (e.g bitcoin, ethereum) will be more valuable despite it's fluctuations. If we considered the time Gold has been in existence, compared  with crypto, you may agree that, in just a little time, in near future, crypto would have double Gold value.
In a nutshell, this is just the beginning of crypto, precisely 10years, and we may expect crypto overtaking Gold in another 10years from now.

Certainly in the past year gold has been the better bet, as gold has maintained its value while most cryptocurrencies (led by Bitcoin) have fallen heavily. And yes it is probably true that older investors like gold and the younger ones like cryptos. Gold has been around since ancient times and has credibility as an investment. Cryptocurrencies are very much new to the market and are a volatile asset, for now, that will one day find their place in the finance market. So probably a good idea to own both, just be careful to choose an established safe cryptocurrency.Given current sentiment I think gold will do better than Bitcoin in 2019. But I could easily be wrong. I am happy to hear your views in the comments section below.

Crypto is valuable and worth but I think Gold is still better. I don't underestimate crypto potential but I still don't see strong reasons to say that crypto is better. Actually, I think it is no need to compare Gold and Crypto since they have own sides and advantages.

Cryptocurrency and gold are completely different financial assets. Therefore, they are very difficult to compare with each other. In addition, there is an eternal question in which units to compare them with each other. Bitcoin to a kilogram of gold, Satoshi with an ounce of gold or something else? I think that such a comparison will always be conditional. It should be borne in mind that gold will always be of high value, while cryptocurrency has its value intermittently.

Yes, they can be. Because in 2017, the most mainstream of cryptocurrency Bitcoin’s value surpassed the price of one ounce of gold. That price movement marked a weird yet auspicious moment in world economic history. Although gold has traditionally been used as a secure asset and cryptocurrencies are subjected to volatility of their price, still Bitcoin’s rise in value is regarded as encouraging for the other cryptocurrencies. If it continues to gain value like this in the future, Bitcoin can prove itself as an easier to accept and a legitimate form of currency.

Crypto is based on technology. You know tech changes everytime as many inventions and innovations added on the real world. It's just that crypto is now the golden age where digital is implemented already. Btc already expensive compared to gold right? You can see that it has surpass its value in terms of price and usage. Of course btc supply is fixed too, so there is no issue there about the law of supply and demand. But I believe gold will never perish but only rise as it needed in our world on some aspect.

Impossible. The price of crypto is very volatile. As for gold, you can save it for decades to come. And you can sell it whenever you want.

Cryptocurrency and gold are completely different and incomparable financial assets. Gold has always been and will remain the eternal constant value of humanity. As for cryptocurrency, there is no such certainty so far. Its value is still growing, but it is very unstable. Cryptocurrency must be time-tested in order to compare with gold. In a hundred to two hundred years it will be possible to compare them.

Yes. The value of Gold has been proven for many years. We can see from the history of the Gold price chart, it is quite stable. However, it is predicted to increase more in the next years. While Bitcoin is still a new digital asset, it is not really safe for a beginner. There is a chance to have big profits, but it also has big risks of losing.

In terms of logic, cryptocurrency should not have a higher value than gold. But from a practical point of view, it is generally difficult to compare them. I think that to determine the more valuable assets between gold and bitcoin may depend on certain factors especially as bitcoin is just few years now. Bitcoin and Gold have their advantages and disadvantages, and the two assets are actually not really competitors but would complement each other much more. Obviously, and with time in near future, bitcoin may be much more valuable though very volitile.
Again, what we may not deny is the fact that gold has intrinsic material value, and people seem to attribute value to gold for 1000 years. Bitcoin may not have proven itself for so long.

I think cryptocurrency can be more expensive than gold. Therefore, the cryptocurrency is now very rapidly gaining popularity and, accordingly, its price is growing.
If you think that a cryptocurrency can be more expensive than gold, what is the price of a cryptocurrency in dollars or euros to make it more expensive than gold? Is the current bitcoin price of about $ 12,000 now no more expensive than gold?
I want to hear answers to simple and logical questions.

Considering some factors such as the age of Crypto compared to gold, in my humble opinion crypto will soon be more valuable than gold. However, not all cryptocurrencies but I can particularly say of BTC. BTC will be more valuable than gold, it's only a matter of time.

Maybe it will be one day but crypto will never be as trustable and desirable than gold is. BTC price is too high but still, there is no physical form of it. It requires a device that needs power and the internet to run. But in gold, we don't need anything like that and it can be used and carry without anything. So gold is gold and crypto is crypto two very different things and we should not compare them.

In modern times, fiat currency and plastic money have embraced gold as the medium of exchange, mainly for practical reasons. Gold is still valuable, but can you visit your local grocery store and pay for milk in gold? Therefore, no matter how important gold is, it cannot replace Crypto

Bitcoin is a unique crypto-digital asset that can be verified anytime from anywhere in the world, using a public blockchain. So, basically, there is no physical transport, chemical analysis, and physical storage required to identify and verify real gold, which is required to verify Bitcoin's integrity. It doesn't matter which one is more valuable, but make sure Bitcoin is more convenient and easier to use

Bitcoin market is always changing and volatile. Its value changes from day to day, even hourly, minute, up and down. So we cannot simply compare it with the value of gold because it will vary over time

I think crypto currencies will not be able to beat the value of gold...
gold is a precious metal that for hundreds of centuries has been honored as a symbol of wealth and crypto currency is only more than 10 years old, so it will not be able to surpass the value of gold.

for me gold is more valuable than crypto even though the price of crypto is fantastic, why is it because gold is in real form and we hold in real form of goods, if crypto is only virtual and there are many obstacles faced, from cyber thieves
