All I see is theymos decided to ban mixers on Bitcointalk and the government running after the mixer services to shut them down.
This was done so that Bitcointalk would continue its work since both the domain and the forum admin are subject to US jurisdiction (not to mention the 1200 bitcoins at the forum’s disposal).

Yes, I understand that. But the interesting fact is, the forum did not get any requests or any kind of threats, nothing - according to theymos. So, I consider the decision to be precautious. I thought as a Bitcointalk admin, he would care about his privacy. I never knew he was in the USA. It's true that theymos did not answer many personal questions regarding himself. But what makes him reveal his location? Cyrus is Romanian. Can't they transfer the ownership of domain and the hosting to Cyrus? Well, this will be too muck work for him which he won't do just to allow some specific services. But who knows, maybe he will start censoring casinos next, and then DEX.  ???

I dont understand why some people are so against mixers. Not all mixers are the same, not all of them are connected with criminals or made only to laundry dirty money.

You should rephrase your words! People have nothing against mixers. It is the government and its entity that has the problem against mixers. Have you ever seen an average Joe saying something negative about mixers? I don't know if you have seen one, but I didn't see any of them yet. All I see is theymos decided to ban mixers on Bitcointalk and the government running after the mixer services to shut them down.

People use mixers for their privacy and they will use it till they exist. Some stupid may disagree, but it will be their unpopular own opinion about mixers which I do not count.

Connecting your wallet to random websites can be risky. But not everyone knows about the dangers. Some people are new to cryptocurrency... and dont understand the risks. Sometimes you might need to connect your wallet to a website for a good reason... like using certain platforms or features.

People who are new in the crypto space are unlikely to have a big amount of money in their wallets. A large percentage of crypto users got hacked or tricked at some point. But that's where you learn from. I do not connect my wallet anywhere that I do not trust. If I want to check any website or it's features, I won't use my regular wallet. This should be a common practice for crypto users. I think we are discussion something else in this topic even though the topic is about exchange.

Ensuring the security of your cryptocurrency is of utmost importance. While both exchanges and wallets play crucial roles in the crypto space, it's crucial to recognize the distinctions in their security features.

Crypto wallets, especially hardware wallets like OneKey, offer a higher level of security compared to exchanges. Here's why:

Forum related / Re: Glitch in board names or what?
« on: December 22, 2023, 01:30:05 PM »
no, it is intended as a redirection , keeping all price speculation and analysis in one place

If so, we didn't need that BTC price child board in the Bitcoin section, which is not a REAL BTC price board. BTC Price name is kind of misleading since the original name of that board is Cryptocurrency Price Speculations. Because of that, I was about to report the threads on that board because I thought I was on the BTC price board.

I was like, "What? Why are people discussing altcoin prices on the BTC price board?" Then I realized that, they are not wrong. I am one who confused between the boards. Anyways, No problem. But that was a little confusing.

I am locking this thread as we already got the answer from officials.

Forum related / Glitch in board names or what?
« on: December 21, 2023, 02:54:57 PM »
I was exploring the section's board by board. In the Cryptocurrency Ecosystem, I found a board named Bitcoin Forum. I opened it and saw three more child boards, one of which was BTC price. But when I click on it, it redirects me to the Cryptocurrency Price Speculations board, which is a child board of Cryptocurrency Trading. I believe this is a mistake. @admin, could you please look into it?

At first, I thought I was on the Bitcoin price board and was about to report those threads because those were about altcoin discussions. So, I was about to report them saying those threads are on the inappropriate board.

Forum related / Re: What is the purpose of automated posts here?
« on: December 21, 2023, 02:45:36 PM »
I see that every topic gets the first reply with the rules of the forum, automatically posted from the Altcoins Talks - Cryptocurrency Forum account, and the purpose of that is more than obvious. But why is a post with a smiley posted right after the first regular reply?

I've found it annoying. The same banner image in every thread you go to. I understand the importance of knowing the forum rules. But I guess the admin could change it a little bit. These banner rules should disappear once a member reaches a certain rank, confirming that they have spent enough time to know about these rules. Similar to the newbie warning on the Bitcointalk forum.

You don't have to force me to read the same thing every time I visit a thread. But, this space could be utilized by the forum admin to make some money. But, they should have reduced the size. I am also concerned by the signature width! People can write a whole article in their signature space. I saw user wrote a big list of users in his signature space and I was reading it because I thought it's his post. LOL.

personally,  I think that ordinals are just flooding the network, and they are being harmful to the ecosystem as the main goal of the network is to transfer money, not images.

On the other hand , this is  dangerous , as this pool is basically censoring transactions.  Will they censor others is SEC/FED , ETC says so?

I don't think they are doing it manually. Probably, they have written a script that will detect the ordinals transactions and kick them out of the blocks. To be honest, I appreciate it. But I am curious if miners will be affected somehow! Now, if you talk about censorship, surely I do not support censorship. I don't think they will hear the SEC or any other entity block a transaction that is made from some specific address. All mining pools could do that if they want. So, why should we think about only the Ocean? If the SEC or another entity asks mining pools to block an address, they must ask all the mining pools. Not only a specific one. Moreover, Not all mining pools belong to the US.

Crypto Exchanges / Re: Status of CEX in your country
« on: December 21, 2023, 01:35:56 PM »
How about in your country, is it legal or illegal to use crypto?
How does the government make its move against CEX?

Forget about exchanges!
Cryptocurrency is banned in my country. What else do you want to know? Haha. Jokes aside, My country was always against crypto currency and Bitcoin, and all the exchanges operating in our country are illegal. There are no registered exchanges because of that. Moreover, the government does not have enough power or sources to take action against international platforms like Binance. Or maybe they don't think they should waste their time.

Instead, they are doing random operations with the exchange users. Whenever someone gets caught doing any transactions or holding any crypto currency, they get arrested by the police. That's what is happening in my country.

Every government will condemn (with more or less excuses) the mixers, they are out of their control.

Not only mixers, but there are many things that won't be controlled. Would they have allowed Bitcoin to grow if they knew how to stop it? It's not like they didn't know. But, the task is impossible. When Bitcoin has less than a hundred active nodes, they could have chased them down if they wanted. But that was a lot of work to do, which was not worth the time they had to spend. People cared about privacy decades ago and used Tor to run their nodes. Now, Bitcoin has more than 15K active nodes. Do you think they would be able to control the Bitcoin network? Fortunately, NO. We needed more people like Julian Assange. We needed more cypherpunks!

Instead, we say "Going against a government isn't the best approach".

People who buy short-term often hold their assets on exchanges, as wallets sometimes charge high fees when making transactions. However, personal wallets are also at risk, as people often link their wallets to other applications or websites, which often allows hackers to steal the data. So one needs to be very careful with the risk on the exchange as well as with your personal wallet.

Who connects their wallets to a random website? Who uses a Trust wallet or meta mask to hold their coin even though they are non-custodial wallets? I don't think a person who has been in crypto for more than a year uses their Meta mask or Trust wallet to hold their coins, which they also use to connect on random websites. General users won't connect their wallet to a random website unless they are bounty hunters.

Bounty hunters also become smart these days. They know about phishing. They use one wallet to do the bounty and daily things, and then they use another wallet to hold their earnings. No, If someone is stupid enough to do all these things with a single wallet, who can save them from being scammed?

Polkadot Forum / Re: I want invest on DOT
« on: December 20, 2023, 03:00:08 PM »
Yes, you are right, bitcoin is much more reliable, but at the same time the same Polkadot can bring dozens of times more interest, you should analyze the market and each individual coin, but in any case, if we are talking about Polkadot, it is worthy of attention.

There was a time when I hated all the altcoins because of their quick pump-and-dump character. Because I misunderstood how it works. Currently, we are heading to the most speculated Bitcoin halving, and as you know, altcoins also follow the pattern of Bitcoin. Sometimes, some altcoins cross over the limit and start walking alone. But most coins are somehow related to the Bitcoin graph.

Polkadot has the potential to give you at least ten times if you can buy it at the right time. I have a feeling that it's already the right time to buy Dot. But I also believe that people have their own buying zone.

Yes and thank you for your intentions on making the forum better! +karma ;)
You're welcome, buddy!

How bad is the thread you are talking about? If it is hard to read and there can be some misunderstanding, we can try to deal with it. Try to make your own translation, let's see what other native speakers will say. If it will be better, it is possible that it can replace an old translation. As for me, I can read Bengali only with an online translator, so I can't evaluate it by myself anyhow.
No, It's really hard to read. As a native speaker, I can read it and understand what he was trying to say. But, sometimes, better wording can improve such guides. Since the forum does not have strict rules about it, I should not blame him for the work that he did free of cost.

Now, If you talk about my own translation, I can do it, but my translations take ages to complete because I have a lot of work, and I do translations in my free time. Recently, I also joined AOBT on BitcoinTalk as a main translator and I have done some work before. I guess I will apply for a translator badge at some point. :)

Holding in exchanges might be risky

It's not might be risky, IT IS RISKY.
You never know if your exchange freeze your account by saying you received the funds from a bad source. They may say it's stolen money, and they may ask for your money's document. You never know that. Do you know what happened with a Sinbad mixer participant? He was receiving his signature payment to his Binance address and recently, Binance freezer the funds and sked for some documents. The government started to shutting down some mixers saying they are illegal while mixer is not illegal at all. Some users may have used them for bad purposes, but an entire service cannot be illegal because of that.

If it is edited so that text looks more or less good, then it's not the biggest problem. Is the result a low quality post? If no, let it be. Probably there can be changes with time, but users are not paid for translations and if they look more or less good and don't have specific for automated translation mistakes... well, as I said, not the biggest problem.

It's not because he's a moderator, the same quality assessment method can be used for translations of a regular users as well: if the post is edited enough that the result doesn't look as a low quality post, then let it be.

If the result is a low quality post, then let's see what we can do with it.

I just wanted to know the rules regarding the translations and usage of automatic translators. Yes, Rules for moderators and users should be equal. I don't know how many times he edited the thread and for which reason, because the thread was created back in 2021 and I was not there to know how it was before the edit.

But, the thread still does not read too good. If forum administration do not see any problem using automatic translator, I am no one to complain about it. I just act according to the rules and that's it. :)
