Halvings, which occur once every four years, halve the block rewards Bitcoin miners receive, thereby reducing the supply of new Bitcoins and increasing their scarcity.
Even halvings don't always result in immediate price increases. In the 2016 Halving, Bitcoin prices took several months to rise.
