On btt, it kind of normal, i don't know why exactly ...

It is good to see you sometimes communicating in chatbox. It is something impossible to find out in bitcointalk. 

I also noticed that when people start asking questions in the chatbox, the admin would prefer they make a thread.

I think admin suggests them to make a thread on the forum for a specific topic that needs a complex explanation. If it is about a light topic, it is no problem to have on the chatbox. What I see that we may need a limitation for the topic that we can discuss on the chatbox. So Admin doesn't need to more often remind them as we know what topics shouldn't be discussed there.

What does everyone else think? It's ok but not many use it and admin has to clear it almost daily.

I read the conversation on the chatbox daily. 
I don't know if it is possible or not, but I think Admin may set the conversation to last 1x24 hours. It should be removed automatically after 1x24 hours. It this is possible, Admin doesn't need to clear the conversation manually each day.

I personally support Admins with the Chatbox feature because I see this Chatbox as a shortcut to view members' discussions faster than Personal Messages (PM) on forums.
But sometimes I get bored if I see the contents of the Chatbox about chats that don't need to be discussed but I just leave it and look at it while saying "arrgghhh they're joking, just leave it alone".
Unlike other forums, Altcoinstalks has a Chatbox feature and this is quite good and friendly because I'm sure if all members want to provide serious information and explain in detail they will definitely create a thread on the forum and that is what they should do.

I honestly don't like it, for the troll and the fun in itself it's okay
in the end in certain places and contexts it is called 'trollbox' and helps to contain spam and trolling from those who enter and want to have a little fun and have a laugh with others, it is another form that helps the forum to evolve

There are a couple chats in discord with members of bitcointalk that I am a part of, so even though its not located on the forum there are still a few of us who communicate. Telegram is also utilized for communication.

For the record, I have no aversion to the chatbox. I can take it or leave it. I like to chat now n then and I see others do as well.

Yes it is a feature, some like it, some don't, but it has advantages in my opinion
1) allows those who want to chat, vent, laugh and troll to have a place without dirtying the threads
2) allows you to intercept those who love to chat so they have a place to come

Even though I don't like it, in all honesty it's useful

Yes and no and I will answer the two. The chat box is needed because people can ask simple questions with a long thread. There some things {question} and people that are active there can give the same simple answer for the person to know what they want. And it is not needed because instead of asking questions in the chat bar that is not counted and doesn't develop the forum activities so there is no need for that. It's delayed the growth of the forum activity.

I so much love what you said here. Every forum has the way they operate and this forum does not have to be like the other forum to satisfy every teleported or native members. Suggestions can be made but there is room to make due the one that you find convincing.

I don't think I have used that chatbox since I teleported my account, but I don't have any problem with it either. It can be there on the front page while I log in, do my post on useful  topics and discussions, then take my leave, it doesn't cause any harm.  Although if my suggestion can count and if also it will be easy for you to do, you can add a settings that can allow members to hid the chatbox if they done want to use it.

obviously not all of us are like this, I come from the open source world I know for sure, having seen it with my own eyes, that with cooperation and a minimum commitment and using a small effort you can do great things
everyone is useful, even those who don't know how to program, everyone has a skill, using them together becomes important but you also need to have the right head
