If it's a hardware wallet, it might be a good addition, especially if you get it at a discount if you buy Proton products, but a web wallet won't be an attractive option for most here.

That is much worse than wallet they currently have.
With hardware wallet everyone would have all personal information to Proton, shipping address, full name, phone number, etc.
This has nothing to do with privacy, it's only another way to earn money while spying on people.

As far as I know, even if you don't subscribe by upgrading your Proton account, you will automatically be added to the waiting list on the Proton Wallet Early Access Waitlist.

There are many open source wallets that are noncustodial which are free to use in a way I do not have to join any waiting list. I also do not like a web wallet. If I want to go for online wallet, I prefer it to be either mobile or desktop wallet which may be although vulnerable but still less vulnerable than web wallets.

Of course, many wallet options can be used and are safer. I'm also not a web wallet user. In the context of the waiting list above, this is only an option if you want to try the Proton wallet without subscribing your account to Proton Visionary or Lifetime user.

I also don't know what the advantages of this wallet are, so users generally have to wait first compared to their premium users.

I don't think webwallets are so evil. They are useful for small amounts, and they are good for adoption.
You can send coins like sending an email. Older people might find it useful and interesting, could be a way to discover crypto for some people;

I personally stopped using web wallets a long time ago, because even for smaller amounts there are non-custodial desktop/mobile wallets that serve the purpose quite well. However, I agree that for some people a web wallet could be the best option in terms of simplicity, because all they need for access is a password+e-mail and possibly 2FA if they decide for greater security.

As for transactions with other users within the Proton system, it could also be interesting if it were to develop into something like Proton Payments, where users could then save on fees, especially at times when they are too high.

This could also increase the number of users of the proton ecosystem. People could be invited just to receive/make payments in a somewhat privacy environment and easy/cheap to transfer.

I have finally been accepted in proton wallet early access.

I can now invite 5 members. If you want an invite, please tell me so I can send you one (only for legit users, no new accounts ofc).

I am able to even receive bitcoin by email, which I didn't test yet.



The e-mail wallet has its own seed and different addresses, they are separate accounts. I found that very interesting.

Did you have to generate bitcoin wallet and backup seed words with Proton?
I think I heard from other people that you can't see see words and I am not sure if they could be exported and saved easily.
Only way is to use your own bip39 seed words that are generated offline or in different wallet.

I can see the seed by clicking "secure your wallet" button in the top.

It requested for email and password, which I do not like. I prefer wallets that I can be able to access using just seed phrase and nothing else than wallet file.

I use proton username and password which has not subscribed before and it brought this up on my mobile phone:



Because I did not subscribe and it brought up 'Updating your account' and did not update anything nor load any wallet. So no wallet until you subscribe.

I think if you subscribe, you may also be able to access their paid VPN (but I do not know) and their other products and services. But I can use other reputed noncustodial wallet like Electrum, Bluewallet, Sparrow, Unstoppable, Metamask and some other wallets without even using email and password and and they are free.

I think this wallet is too complicated and does not make it easier to use the wallet. what you said is very true and I also don't like asking for email, I prefer wallets like matemask because they are easier and not too complicated in registering an account.

The wallet is not complicated at all. It is just like other bitcoin wallet. What I do not like about the wallet is the subscription needed for it when there are many free bitcoin wallets that can be used. According to what I found out about the wallet, it is also a web wallet. I think the wallet would be free for those that have already subscribed to proton products before. But I prefer Electrum.
