It requested for email and password, which I do not like. I prefer wallets that I can be able to access using just seed phrase and nothing else than wallet file.

I use proton username and password which has not subscribed before and it brought this up on my mobile phone:



Because I did not subscribe and it brought up 'Updating your account' and did not update anything nor load any wallet. So no wallet until you subscribe.

I think if you subscribe, you may also be able to access their paid VPN (but I do not know) and their other products and services. But I can use other reputed noncustodial wallet like Electrum, Bluewallet, Sparrow, Unstoppable, Metamask and some other wallets without even using email and password and and they are free.

I guess that's because the account will be connected to the wallet. From what I read, their users can send BTC just by typing the email address.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I also prefer not to give any information to use non-custodial wallets.

One of the things I didn't like is that the wallet will be controlled by the Swiss government Nonprofit Proton Foundation, which means that proton wallet nodes may be managed by the Nonprofit Proton Foundation and they may collect your IP addresses.
I will wait for the reviews before using them

While i trust Proton more than random custodial or closed-source web wallet out there, i wouldn't use web wallet on most condition.

He is confusing the localtion of the servers (Switzerland) with who runs proton company.

Proton company is just Swiss based, because swizz laws are privacy friendly.

Thanks, uh that's really a hidden nightmare. Plus if email addresses can represent bitcoin addresses generated by user accounts, I think having a "side record" of how bitcoin can work like that. They enforce privacy only on government control and it can be revoked at anytime.

Sheesh, that's a massive revelation. I'm actually interested to the wallet after hearing such news but not until after accessing the site as it requires email registration which i think is not good. Instead i call this a web wallet if they don't offer mobile or desktop wallet with no email registration requirements.

It should be fine to test Proton wallet but I would create brand new proton email account for this purpose.
Make no mistake that everything you do will with your Proton account be connected and saved somewhere, that includes all IP addresses, bitcoin addresses, received/sent email addresses, etc.
There is something fishy about them.

I saw that the terms from the Proton wallet service (https://proton.me/wallet/terms) include the associate between the wallet address and email address:

associate said wallet addresses with your email address.

As far as I know, even if you don't subscribe by upgrading your Proton account, you will automatically be added to the waiting list on the Proton Wallet Early Access Waitlist.

There are many open source wallets that are noncustodial which are free to use in a way I do not have to join any waiting list. I also do not like a web wallet. If I want to go for online wallet, I prefer it to be either mobile or desktop wallet which may be although vulnerable but still less vulnerable than web wallets.

I don't think webwallets are so evil. They are useful for small amounts, and they are good for adoption.

You can send coins like sending an email. Older people might find it useful and interesting, could be a way to discover crypto for some people;
