Gas fee for air drop distribution, legit ?

In my recent air drop participation, i discovered certain air drop campaign asking of gas fee to receive coins. I think this trend on the crypto ecosystem could be a scam, and it may be uncertain that these coins might not  be listed on any exchange at the long run. What do you think?

It is another way, to avoid payment. If you do an airdrop, you must have calculated, the cost of transaction fees. Why should the reciever pay, blockchain fees?

Forget about joining airdrops that asks you to pay for gas. If they can't pay for it, that should tell you that they are incapable of starting any project.

There are many of these kind of airdrops since 2017 that were busted. Other than asking for a gas fee, some would even ask to "donate" and be given extra tokens. Ignore any of these airdrops asking you to do something other than follow/retweet/share.

Also, do not fall airdrops that only aims to increase twitter/facebook/telegram followings and those looking for referrals.

I have sent gas to every Airdrop that I followed before, but the Airdrop is fake.
in my opinion, if there is an airdrop asking you to do that, don't ever do that, if there are many people who send ethereum if there are many people who send gas, fraudsters who ask for gas costs will have a lot of ethereum.
A good airdrop does not require sending gas fees from every member of the community.

If the project is successful and has a high value, why not?  However, the case that I often find, airdrop only gives a small amount of tokens or coins.  If I were you, maybe I would think again to participate in the project.

it's just a parable.  In fact, until now I have not found a successful project that requires airdrop participants to pay for gas.  it's just that I've experienced it when I participated in the cibus project.  whether it can be said to be a successful project or not at the time of token sale, but they require participants to send eth for gas fees.

I see now. Perhaps "If a project can be successful" is more appropriate. The problem with that is we can't really tell. What happened to you is probably less than 1% of the all airdrops that asked for gas.

This, of course, very often happened to me before when I participated in airdrops, and of course I first studied the company and their product to decide later whether I need to pay for gas to receive these tokens or not, and as I recall, I was lucky once, I I paid for gas and received tokens and successfully sold these tokens on the exchange and received an excellent profit, but of course there are almost no such situations.

Agree. If there are no funds for airdrop, there are no funds for the project too.

I rarely heard that airdrop participants need to send gas for claiming their rewards. As commonly airdrop just gives a small reward, it is better to leave if you think it is a bit strange. Moreover, if the coins/tokens are still not listed on any exchanges yet, so it is not a wise decision to spend gas only for a small reward.

the reign when crypto is crypto,, we do send gas fees for airdrop and surely they will send the tokens and eventually later when listed in exchange, i disposed it. but this time around not all work. they are just extorting ETH from users which is not fair at all. just don't send any gas fees to any project.

I don't dare to say on whether the projects that require gas are scams or not, I just share my sad experience: I participated in 3 airdrop campaigns that require gas at the end of the campaign to receive tokens (gas = 0.5 USD, token = 5 USD), but in the end it's just fraudulent projects, no real team, no participation in any crypto events or seminars ... So I'll never send gas to receive tokens from airdrop again!

Air drops are just small amount why should I pay for the gas fee? at the exchanges I will fee again for the trading fee that would lower further the money that I will get.
I never bump such scenario but certainly I won't pay for such small amount I will be getting if the token will go on exchange.
