Yes I agree 8 ranks is enough. I think the special badge is a good choice more than "pandawan rank". Have you discussed with admin?

Don't put too much pressure on yourself achieving the higher ranks here. You might end up posting a lot of crap trying to reach that required the activity level.

I would be satisifed only with Legend as the highest rank, but I also have nothing against Padawan.

I think bounty managers won't care about Padawan. Legend/Mythical/Padawan will likely still have the same stakes.

On the other hand, maybe rank Padawan will have an incentive effect for the users.

Actually, it is also what I think. Legend rank is commonly as the highest rank. But maybe admin wants to have a bit different rank system. I've no problem with it, but it should be better not very extreme.

Yes, there are some managers who don't care about it, ex: BountyDetective. They make the stakes the same for Legend/Mythical/Padawan. But others, care about it, ex: deloodin. They make different stakes for those ranks.

I also think 8 ranks are enough. Members with > 1000 posts should be awarded some special badge like "hard-worked member". I don't think those members contribute a lot to the forum, aside from post farming. And as far as I know, newshunter is just a bot. Its role is updating news.
