Making payments with Bitcoin is not profitable for several reasons. Bitcoin has a high transaction fee and its transfers are not instantaneous, as in other cryptocurrencies. Besides, its high volatility is not beneficial for making purchases.

Honestly, many people including me is looking at Bitcoin more as an investment asset (which we are wishing can be rising up all the time though this is impossible) more than a payment network and that is the reason why we are holding on to it and will not be moving no matter what.

Since we are thinking more like an investor rather than as a consumer,  should we then look at Bitcoin as a long-term investment just like getting into real estate? And how long is the long-term here, 5 years, 10 years?

I would rather think that way also. BTC for me is a valuable investment that would give huge profit for me in the future. keeping some BTC in our wallet is somewhat securing our future. for sure BTC will not end today and the future may have brought good fortune for all BTC holders. back in the infancy years of BTC  if you just hold it even 1000pcs when the price still less than a $1 you could have been millionaire by now.
