I don't think it's a big deal for Ethereum to remain the king of Altcoins, The reason is because there are still many projects running on the Ethereum platform. So they will continue to use Ethereum for all activities of the project, including sending tokens.  But it will be a different story if this year the new Crypto project no longer uses the Ethereum platform, then that will be a big concern. It could be that Ethereum is beaten by other coins, which have cheaper fees and faster transactions.
