I have heard market “experts” declare the present bull run is another crypto bubble similar to 2017. But unlike then, the current run-up is driven not just by retail investors but also big-name investors, institutions and more.

There are many differences for sure. Not only about the current rate of Bitcoin but also from the factors that support the price improvement now. I think the current factors are more complex than in 2017. More parties are involved in crypto business and they know well about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin's bull run of 2017 pushed the market to huge destruction from the peak to bottom. Panic, rumors, exchange hack etc news totally played in inverse role. Many tokens ruined, maximum altcoins touched the lowest point even Bitcoin reached to the previous bottom point but recent bull run didn't pushed the market to such decline rather it showed a sensible behavior which took small correction that is helpful for building the physical level of the traders. Why don't we add the possible reason/s why these institutional investors changed their perspective on bitcoin as an investment asset?  COVID happened that led to the printing of dollars which will basically devalue their fiat based investments as a result of inflation. The stimulus packages to aid citizens greatly affected by the pandemic flowed into BTC and they probably saw that coming too.

They are probably aware and took advantage of the limited supply and the four year cycle (bullrun after halving).

Yes, it seems bitcoin price is likealy going to the side away, I believe Altcoin season is starting to happen. But We must see for several week again. Because I see Altcoin is recovering slowly now.
I hope we will see altcoin precie will increase and touch ATH. Hopefully it will happen soon.
