Google Finance now has a cryptocurrency data tab. A dedicated "crypto" field has been added to Google Finance, the tech giant's data site. It's also in a prominent location.

Crypto is listed among the five default markets, which also include the United States, Europe, Asia, and “Currencies,” at the top of the page, where users can “compare markets.”

For some, such as the “Documenting Bitcoin” Twitter account, the new feature appears to be a sign of crypto's growing mainstream acceptance.

This year, Bitcoin has soared to new heights, fueled primarily by institutional adoption of the currency. Bitcoin is increasingly a part of the corporate world, from MassMutual to MicroStrategy.

This distinguishes it from the 2017 bull market, which was fueled primarily by retail investors. According to Google Trends, searches for "bitcoin" haven't reached the levels of frenzied searching seen three years ago. (For what it's worth, Google Trends shows that “crypto” is significantly more popular than “google finance.”)

Despite this, cryptocurrency is becoming a part of the financial landscape.

At the moment, Google Finance appears to only track a small number of cryptocurrencies. When you click the crypto tab, you'll see bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and bitcoin cash by default.

There are no results for Cardano's ADA, Polkadot's DOT, or Stellar's XLM tokens in a search for the protocol or the ticker. The Ripple XRP Liquid Index, which trades on Nasdaq, was returned by XRP.
