The latest Bitcoin Mining Council report showed that sustainable energy usage for BTC mining grows nearly 60% in a year.

Well, just to satisfy the criticism of the loud people and organizations, then maybe Bitcoin mining has no choice but to get into green energy...anyway with the price of BTC right now I am sure that even if power will never be cheap as that in China there can still big profits that can be made. Plus there is also that pressure from Eurozone for PoW mining so if there can already be a verified data that green energy is used for most of the the mining, then there is a possibility that no one will anymore proposed to ban Bitcoin.
