Less than three hours left before game 2! The numbers haven't really moved that much. I was hoping to bank on Dallas +10.5 but I find the odds to be low @1.50 I was expecting it to be around @1.7 and up because of the result of game 1.

Celtics won again but this time it is by only 7 points, you could have won if you take that +10.5 spread. Low scoring game for both teams, Irving once again have a bad shooting night, don't have the percentage though. Luka scored 32 points but he needs Kyrie to help him in the scoring chores.

This game shows 2 things.
1. It seems like Kyrie is affected by the Boos coming from the crowd. They are just Boo'ing him whenever he is holding the ball. Well, it worked as he played very awful in the first 2 games.
2. The defense of the Celtics is just overwhelming the Mavericks.

Luka alone isn't enough for the Mavericks to win, and yes, we have seen some of their starters helping him offensively scoring double-digits, but Kyrie is the missing piece for them. In the previous series against the Wolves, him and Luka are scoring more than 25+ points in most of their games. Now Kyrie is having a poor performance in his first 2 finals games.

Games 3 & 4 will be played on their home. Let's see how the Mavericks will recover from this 0-2 deficit, and just for context, teams that win the first two games at home in the NBA Finals go on to win the series around 89-90% of the time.

Yeah, but like I said, it's not worth the risk. I followed the game until half, the score was close even though Celtics were struggling on shooting threes but then you have the Mavs support also missing a lot of open shots. At that point, I already felt like they would lose again.

And still that suffocating defense that they put out in the last couple of minutes, to force a steal and then they hit back to back threes, White and Holiday. And then that big block on PJ Washington, although there is an argument that it could have been a foul.

Now, down 0-2, I don't know how Dallas can mount a comeback. They are going to play in this homecourt though, so at least there will eb no booing on Kyrie and maybe win this one to stay alive in the series.

I just looked at the record of the Celtics when playing on the road this playoff and they have a staggering 6-0.
They're undefeated on the road in the first 3 series.

I know that they might have an easy path going to the NBA Finals, but the Celtics aren't that bad when playing on the road. The suffocating defense followed by the three-point shooting is the "bread and butter" of the Celtics all throughout the regular season and the playoffs. In Game 2, they shot poorly on the three-point area, and yet they still won. Like what I said in my previous post, teams who are winning the first 2 games on their home are winning 80-90% of the time.

This 0-2 hole for the Mavericks is demoralizing for them, but they need to make some adjustments in order for them to come back to this series.

Anyway, we know the Lakers are in need of a head coach now, and Darvin Ham will return to the Milwaukee Bucks as their top assistant head coach. Now Dan Hurley, who the Lakers want to be their head coach next season turned down the offer to stay with the UConn and get that third title.

Quote
Dan Hurley has turned down a six-year, $70 million offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and will return to chase a third straight national title at UConn.

"I am humbled by this entire experience," Hurley said in a statement released by the school. "At the end of the day, I am extremely proud of the championship culture we have built at Connecticut. We met as a team before today's workout and our focus right now is getting better this summer and connecting as a team as we continue to pursue championships."
Any opinions about this? Now this increases the chances of JJ Redick being their head coach, eh? :D

I was really pulling for Dallas to win the NBA Finals this year, but alas, Boston looks like they dominate Dallas in almost every way possible. The only player doing anything on Dallas is Luka. If the road record holds true for the Celtics, it's over.

As far as the Lakers go, good for Hurley. I'm glad to see him return to Uconn and chase the 3 peat. I hope he get's it. I heard a story that Jay Wright from Villanova is on the list of potential candidates for the job as well. We will probably know by the end of the month who is the new coach.

Game 3 is a must win for Dallas to avoid that 0-3 hole that no team in the NBA has ever recovered. With the Mavericks showing in game 2 and the possibility of KP being injured, i do think that Dallas could take game 3 and my fearless forecast that Irving will score more than 20 points to help Luka in scoring.

Less than 3 hours to go before game 3. Have you placed your bets? Mavs are obviously the favorites this time but I feel like they still haven't figured out the Celtics special defense. I'm hoping this will be closer than the first two games because I took Celtics at +4.5 handicap @1.71

I feel like Dallas is just not finding that system they are looking for, sometimes you could be amazing against some teams, but just not fit well with other teams. Boston so far has shown that they are quite good, and not just good against some teams, but they are good against Dallas too, its just a very terrible mismatch so far. However, lets remember that Kyrie is the type of guy who could take over an entire series, maybe not as much as prime Lebron obviously lol, but he played with Lebron and got a title with him at 2016, which we have seen what Kyrie can do at finals. So lets see how it will go, I think its going to be not good for Dallas, but its not over yet.

I don't if the story i've read is true but it says that KP will be out today because of an injury, this will be an added factor why the Dallas is the favorite to win on tonight's game. I have betted for the Mavs -1.5 @1.94 as i think they will bounce  back and not letting themselves in a 0-3 hole that no one has overcome.

I watched parts of the third quarter, the Mavs has a system and they rely on isolation plays most of the time that's why Celtics are able to force turnovers. It's contrast to the way the Celtics are playing with quick ball movement. That's how they build a double digit lead but the Mavs caught up in the fourth. Game is really close, let's see how this ends.

The Celtics are just one win away on their 18th title as they won on the road against the Mavericks 106-99.
I guess it's safe to say that they will win the title already just by basing on the history of the 3-0 in the playoffs.

The Duos of both teams really played well. Tatum and Brown combined for 61 points while Luka and Kyrie scored 62. Take note that Porzingis didn't play in this game as well due to a very rare injury, and yet they still won. This just shows that the Celtics really came to win it all this regular season. Traded some players and acquired Holiday and Porzingis to become better. Now it's paying off already. One win away, and I want to congratulate them already, but still the jobs not finish.

Yeah, lost my bet on this one as I thought that the Mavs are going to comeback strong in this game and make it 2-1. Truly disappointing to see them going down 0-4 and being swept in the NBA finals.

We've seen this two teams build themselves this year, with the acquisition of KP and Holiday, and on the other hand, the Mavs before the trade deadline, took PJ Washington and Gafford who really help them a lot to reach the finals.

But I'm still hoping that the Mavs will at least take one win and not be sweep. So hopefully, they can win their next game.

Game 4 blowout and the first Mavs win in the series.

I don't know about you but going into game 4, I felt like it's a trap that's why I pulled out of our P2P bet (original bet was Celtics win). My hunch was they will probably ease up and then claim their championship on home court. True or not, I'm just glad I avoided another loss ;D

I was thinking that myself, they want to win it at home. All the starters should be well rested as they were sitting in the 3rd quarter mostly plus will have a couple days off.

Boston could lose 4 in a row, but it has never been done, so we are just waiting on the inevitable so they can be crowned the 2024 NBA champions.
