What are your thoughts on this? Is he a perfect fit? He doesn't have the experience but just a NBA analyst and most of the time he had to be controversial so that many basketball fans watch his podcast. But I don't think it will translate to being like a great NBA coach.
I agree that even if he is a great player, this will not be a guarantee that he will be a great coach. My take is that he will not be successful on his first year as a coach if nothing will be done on the current roster. I mean if they can't get a good players via trade that could help Davis and Lebron, their campaign will be just the same as last year and most likely he will be fired as a coach hehe.
Steve Nash for me is the best example of this one. He's a great player when he played, won MVP, but never became a good coach when he was on the Nets. I guess let's just see how Redick will coach the Lakers and will he have a better impact compared to Darvin Ham. There are some questions that are coming to my mind though.
1. Will he be able to handle Le-GM and AD to the point where he will not experience what Darvin Ham experienced when he's the coach.
2. Will he be able to handle criticisms when he's making mistakes here and there. I mean every mistake is a huge one for the fans. Just look at Westbrook and Coach Ham.
3. Will he lead the Lakers to the playoffs? In his first year.
Right now, my expectation to him is low just like when a rookie first joined the NBA, but it would be good for the Laker fans out there if he will mimic how Ime Udoka, Steve Kerr and Joe Mazulla lead the Celtics and Warriors to the NBA Finals and eventually the title.
