I am somehow convinced that the destination address is the most important when mixing. You can use VPN or TOR, but if the address and funds on it are non-untraceable, all other efforts are worthless.

Address is more important but when you have IP addresses and location connected with address that makes a much bigger problem.
In Tor browser you are easily changing IP address with clicking on new identity button, and you can easily generate new bitcoin address to avoid address reuse.

You can't hide your balance from anyone when using VON or Tor browser, just IP address and maybe activity.

Sure...

The only way to really hide your balance is to use multiple addresses. Ideally, you should never reuse an address, making very hard to track all of your addresses.

I was just about to say about Silent Payments, but that means that each time you would receive signature payment each week in your Silent Payment address than you would received them in newly generated different public address each time.
If you later wanted to consolidate all this addresses into one address you would eventually have to reveal connection between them.
Good address management and labeling is needed especially with this.

I don't think consolidating is important. It doesn't reduce fees and is bad for privacy...

You could just spend your coins when you want, you hardly will want to spend all at the same time.

About consolidation,  if fees are very low and if that doesn't harm your privacy, could be an option.  But not important and really not necessary

Maybe this topic is more suitable for another thread (signature MixTum), but although there is a logic for our addresses to be public for the reason that everything is transparent, I have always been in favor of such data being available only to those who participate in the campaign, or only to the manager.

I believe that this would contribute to the privacy of all participants, of course only if the address from which the payment comes from would also be private.

I agree. I don't like my username (thankfully not my real name) in google sheets which are open for everyone for eternity with dozens of weeks of payments...

But it is a consolidated pratice already. I have seen few campaigns which decide to keep things private, such as sportsbet.

I was reading some old articles (about 2 years ago) and as far as I remember it was not easy to use this kind of payment method back then, especially from the side of the one who receives the transaction in the sense that the recipient has to scan the blockchain to find his transaction, which (then) was not a very simple task.

Has anything changed since then, that is, are silent payments somehow supported by most wallets and not complicated for the average user?

Probably TOR offers more privacy, but I also don't see a problem if I use a newly created address on my hardware wallet as the destination address.
Mixtum clears the logs, they do not retain any transaction data, so that shouldn't be a problem. The only weak point here is the potential MITM problem that can come from Cloudflare

Yes it would be really good for everyone privacy.
Silent payments with additional mixer is giving more privacy, it would be even better if bitcoin would add mimble wimble addresses.
Only rpoblem with Silent Payments is potential bugs since this is early stage and not many wallets support them yet.

What is there to be knowledgeable about?
You just download Tor browser and double click to open it... this is arguably more simple than using a VPN, since Tor is free, you don't have to pay for it, and there is not centralized controller like in case with VPN services.
Most VPN services are just a security theater, except maybe few exceptions like MullvadVPN and few others.
Mixers used with VPN is mostly giving a false sense of anonymity.

To be honest, I have tried Tor before, but I decided not to continue using it because of the speed issue. Tor sacrifices speed and user experience to achieve the best possible security. I understand this, but I cannot get used to that speed, even though I don't mix BTC often. This makes me not a loyal Tor user, and I don't have much experience to share on AltcoinsTalks.

I also don't have a high need for anonymity. As mentioned before, I only focus on the cleanliness of BTC after using MixTum, so Mixtum Clearnet + VPN is enough for me to feel satisfied and confident when moving my BTC.

Get your story straight and don't repeat the same stuff all over again, we already know that you don't care about privacy or anonymity at all.

It's silly to say speed is important for mixing, and nobody asked you to use Tor browser all the time.
I don't care what you do for yourself, but you are giving a bad example to other members who want to use mixers, especially since you are advertising it.

Tor is slow, but that shouldn't stop anyone from using it, especially since onion links are more private than any clearnet domain that is using 3rd-party DDoS protection like CloudFlare or DDoS-Guard.

As well as the risk of your domain being suspended for "phishing" (or whatever that's supposed to mean), you also have to worry about the DDoS provider sharing your (unencrypted!) user data with law enforcement.

I don't see that creating a new address is difficult to hide, there are many different and simple ways to do it.
Mixtum does not keep any logs, so it should be a safe part. Cloudflare in the middle remains the most critical if they use a sniff method.

by the way. Is there any case where Cloudflare is publicly recognized as an MITM attacker or is their service used for that?

Personally, I think Tor is easier to use than a VPN.

VPN may keep logs, so some trust is involved. The good VPN are expensive... Tor is basically straight foward. You don't need to use it all the time, just when you need enhanced privacy.

Speed improved a lot compared to early Tor days, but I surely won't watch movies and play video games in Tor browser

All mixers and vpn services are saying they don't collect information, but we have examples in history when that was not the case.
And cloudflare is one big monster that nobody want's to talk about, if they stop working for few days most of the websites who use it will also stop working normally
