I think the problem with mixers usually happen when they mix large amounts of known illegal funds.
Just like when CM mixed hacked coins from binance . Authorities certainly took a closer look at cm after that.
Certainly it is a difficult decision for a mixer when such situations happen..

I will then ask a very unpopular question when it comes to mixers - can mixers protect themselves by simply rejecting such coins? Usually the public addresses where such coins are located are publicly known, and it would be very easy to say no - although of course this has never been the practice of mixers so far.

What I want to say is that if we start from the assumption that the majority of coins that pass through the mixers are actually legitimate (clean) and are mixed only to protect the privacy of the users, then do the mixers risk their survival just because of a small part of suspicious transactions that happen from time to time?

Exchanges,  even some swap services, will just freeze your coins until you send them your kyc documents if they think your coin is illegal  no mixer do that.

There could be some automatic system in mixers  that would just refund coins from clearly illegal sources, if that is the mixer policy. But I don't think many mixers would do that..

Bitcoins are stored on blockchain that is located on physical computer drives.
So many people are using fiat currencies everyday and they are all virtual numbers on screen.
If everyone tried to withdraw all money from their bank accounts this would be impossible, everyone knows this for a fact.
Yet everyone continues to pay tax on something they don't have in physical place, they pay tax on income and on bunch of other things.

That statement is questionable, it really depends on the sum and the residence of the bank. In some states it is not a problem, you can do this, of course, passing the bureaucracy way. However, I get your point. People often think that crypto is something untouchable, thus risky and unstable, but with fiat they have the same issues. The only difference they don't realise it.

It's not questionable, it's easily proven and banks are even confirming this themselves.
Amount of imaginary numbers on screen is much larger than physical paper bills, and central banks are printing new money from nothing with deb, that is another reasons why we have inflation.
You don't have this problem with Bitcoin, but there are other problems with BTC, that is why it's good to use something like Mixtum.

I checked the bot by clicking menu -> FAQ, and yeah, it's not working on my side as well.

MixTum however has one advantage, which is that it is still a premium service with fees that are slightly higher (if I'm not mistaken) than the competition. Somehow it seems to me that people always use the services that are the cheapest first or those that were actually free as was CM - and those are the first to become a target.

In addition, MixTum experience is the greatest among mixers, which probably means that they will know how to protect their business.

I really hope MixTum won't encounter any problems in the future. It's a tool I frequently use for many purposes, primarily to maintain the health of my accounts on CEXs. I don't want my account to have issues with dirty money or be frozen due to deposit-related risks.

Limiting each Mix to a maximum of 50 BTC ~$3M could be a solution to prevent MixTum from being exploited by large organizations with huge amounts of money needing to be mixed. I hope MixTum will find more solutions for this issue, because currently we can't stop anyone from using the MixTum service.

I use https://t.me/mixtum_bot but I can’t even /start, hope the MixTum team  is fixing this Telegram bot issue.

From my side, the telegram bot was not working at all, I mean, never. I even rose this question on Bitcointalk, when the campaign was active, but I was told, that it was just a temporary issue. But now I can see that I am not the only one who faced such a problem.

If I remember correctly, at the beginning of the year when the mixers moved to Altt, there was also a stoppage in the work of the Mixtum tg bot, but it was repaired.

There shouldn't be any problems here with the mixing process itself, because there is a Jambler as an additional layer of security.
Mixtum has an option for (no fee) free testing, I will try it today or tomorrow when I have my wallet with me.

If Mixtum put the campaign on hold, it does not mean that we should forget about this service. They are still reliable for coin mixing
