We all are aware of the higher risk involved in trading than HODLing and it has always been advisable to HODL rather than trade especially to Beginners. Just few days after new year this happened :Market dip hit crypto traders with over $650 million in long liquidations last week. This gives more reasons to avoid trading especially for beginners, since traders may usually fall into pump and dump Schemes and trading especially when trading Altcoins. Its advisable to HODL but the reason I made this post is about from the fact that, we know the surety of HODLing bitcoin, it can be HODL for over a decade but this is not true for most altcoins. Though I have 2 altcoins I can advice anyone to HODL which are Solona and Ethereum while I may have surety of HODLing altcoins for at most 2 years maybe with an exception of Ethereum which I may HODL longer.
I know there are other altcoins worth HODLing but I guess my knowledge is quite vague about investing and HODLing altcoins and so I will like to ask the questions.
- How do you know an altcoin will be good for HODLing?
- How many years if surety do you have in HODLing altcoins and which altcoins are you currently HODLing?
You’re absolutely right—trading often carries higher risks compared to HODLing, especially for beginners. The recent $650 million in long liquidations is a stark reminder of the volatility and potential pitfalls of active trading, especially with altcoins.
Regarding HODLing Altcoins:
Assessing Altcoin Potential:
Technology and Use Case: Look for altcoins with strong technological foundations and practical use cases. Projects with innovative solutions or unique technology often have better long-term prospects.
#DevelopmentTeam : A solid and active #DevelopmentTeam can be a good indicator of an altcoin’s potential longevity and success. Check their track record and ongoing projects.
Community and Adoption: Strong community support and growing adoption can drive an altcoin’s success. Look at the size and engagement of the community and the partnerships or integrations with other platforms.
Market Position: Consider the altcoin’s market cap and its position within the industry. Established altcoins with significant market presence might have a better chance of long-term success.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the altcoin complies with regulatory standards to avoid future legal issues that could affect its viability.
HODLing Timeframe:
Bitcoin: As a well-established asset, Bitcoin has a long track record and is often considered a reliable long-term hold.
Ethereum: Ethereum’s potential for long-term HODLing is supported by its foundational role in smart contracts and decentralized applications.
Solana: While relatively newer, Solana’s technological advancements and growing ecosystem could make it a good candidate for a 2-year hold, but always stay updated with its development.
Other Altcoins: For other altcoins, the timeframe for HODLing can vary based on their technology, adoption, and market conditions. A general approach is to evaluate them periodically and adjust your strategy as needed.
My Altcoin HODLing List:
Ethereum (ETH): Given its integral role in the blockchain ecosystem, I’m confident in holding ETH for the long term.
Solana (SOL): I believe in its potential for growth, but I monitor its progress closely.
Other Altcoins: I keep an eye on projects with promising technology and adoption but remain flexible and ready to adapt based on new developments.
