I'm not sure how realistic it is considering that Thor is Jambler's partner, so I believe that partnership has a lot of influence on the fee. Maybe it's always a lot for us as users when we have to pay a fee, while looking at it from the mixer's side, it doesn't seem like an excessive amount. The fee also helps maintain quality, so Thormixer offers mixed coins with a minimal AML risk score, which partially justifies the defined fee.
I certainly agree that there is room for thinking in the direction of correcting the fixed network fee.

Webmixer is also a partner of Jumbler, but its fees range from 0.00035 to 0.0007 BTC. The service fee also varies from 1% to 5%. I haven't used that platform yet, so I don't know when the fees vary. I feel like all the Jambler partners provide a similar level of anonymity. So, when it comes to the fees, they could be almost similar, if not the same.

I am not saying they should lower the fees, but I believe there is some room to make changes to the fees. Whales who mix big amount of money does not care of a $30 fees. The target of mixers are the whales.

Yes. Some mixers provided free services. All they took was the transaction fees, and donation to their service wasn't mandatory as well. Their entire business was dependent on the donations people made to their service. One of them is Chipmixer, which was in a great position before it got seized. One forum member who handled the campaign slowly faded away because of that incident. I saw another mixer that provided free service, but I cannot remember the domain name. They also ran their signature campaign on the Bitcointalk forum for a while. They had 50K DAI on escrow, but their website was closed at some point without any communication. We can say this was an exit scam.

Yeah, transaction fees are not just related to a project financial model but also affect user psychology. Devs build the project and maintain the conditions for mixing to occur at the highest quality. Devs need revenue and profit to be motivated to work. A free service could be suspected as a trap for users, which clearly doesn't benefit anyone.

We often try to minimize costs when entering the market, but that's not the ultimate goal, it should only be considered if it doesn't change the outcome. Many investors were willing to pay hundreds of $ on Ethereum to buy SHIB and made huge profits, so we can also pay for anonymity and clean BTC. I think the quality and reputation of the Mixer is the primary factor that users care about, not the fee to use the Mixer.

That is true, but in reality nobody is going to mix such a small amount of bitcoins, except if they are testing or using Thormixer service for the first time.

Well, I agree with you, if someone is going to use the mixer then he/she will go for high amount of Bitcoins then going for that minimum amount.

Only those who may check the mixer for reviewing purpose might consider choosing the minimum amount option.

However, the fees of Thormixer are also similar to most mixers out there and that's why I think the Thormixer users will keep using it instead of considering an alternative mixing service.

I don't know if there is any benefit in someone abusing such an option, but for some, even that amount, viewed in fiat values, is probably significant. I wonder if there is some mechanism that would detect and prevent someone from "testing" multiple times from the same wallet?

It is certainly a great thing and I would encourage other mixers to include a similar option.

Maybe the problem is in what I wrote above, and maybe other mixers simply don't think that such a feature is necessary - the thing is actually very simple, coins in - coins out.

I agree, but there should also be certain conditions for those who use the particular mixer for the first few times, so that a person has the opportunity to understand for himself whether the mixer is trustworthy and whether its reputation is justified. This is great. I did not know that they had introduced a new mix facility. I cannot say that people could use it to get some benefit since it is only for testing purposes, and I don't think anyone would mix exact 0.001 for privacy reasons. I have a lot of small UTXOs which came from some mixer services campaigns, and I should consolidate them at some point. I was wondering if such a free mix would help me or not. But I feel like, nope, it won't help because the consolidation makes the amount bigger, and I have to use a paid service. But good to know such an option is available.

It is not a big deal to change the address/wallet, even now when the fee is 3-4 sat/vB. The value is not excessively high, so it can hardly be misused. And it is certainly not worth dividing a larger amount into many smaller transactions.
For example, if someone wants to have an anonymous website, 0.001 BTC is currently around $60 and that can be enough for domain and hosting for a year.

A user who is trying to mix their bitcoin that came from an illegal source would definitely not look at fees. But a genuine user who is mixing their hard earned BTC just for privacy purposes will definitely pay attention to mixing fee.

Well, even if it's for testing purpose only but still it's a pretty nice feature that they have on their platform and surely I would also suggest most mixers to consider having a feature similar to that one.

0.001 Bitcoin isn't a small amount and for many people it makes quite good sense to go for that option during mixing. Well, some people might misuse that feature in order to avoid fees and I believe Mixtum knows that as well.

You are going to be eating up a lot of transaction fees making several small mixes that are going to negate the advantages you get from the free mix.

The average person is mixing, what, 0.1 BTC or something like that? (According to my referral stats.) So, this approach is basically paying the transaction fee 100s of times as well as the fact that privacy is significantly reduced unless you are using 100 unique destination addresses.

Thormixer is not a community kitchen for feeding poor people around the world.

If someone want's to save on fees than they should first consolidate coins in their wallets when fees are low, and than send bigger amount to mixer if they want to.
They can also split and receive different amounts in multiple addresses.
It should be said that mixing is worthless if not done correctly.
