I used to gamble over my head from the age of 4 and 1/2 to about the age of 33 and 2/3
Phil, on what where you gambling when 4?

I knew you were betting on the ponies from out other topic but, at 4???
I once walked 12 miles from a racetrack to my home because I was broke from betting on the horses. So broke I spent my train fare to get home.
Well, it was good for your body, you got enough time to lose all the anger, you had time to meditate..
But that's why I only bet on horses from the computer and I always load my account only with prepaid cards and get out of there every big win cause I know having money there will change my way of betting.
That being said, I once was at Ascot and once at Kempton, to be honest nothing beats the atmosphere there, you can't have the same in your house.
Also raw numbers are irrelevant.
$44k might mean 10 years of average wage in Philippine or half of year of wage in Norway.
It could also mean more than all a person has earned in his live or 1% of what he makes a year!
Somebody losing $100 might be in worse situation than somebody losing $5000 so hardly relevant for the persons involved.
What you say could be right or wrong, but this is my boss who owns the private company where I work.
I also don't understand that he gambled and could lose that much money, I just imagine that 44,000 USD is impossible for me to get if I work 4 years or more in this company.
As I told you it's about the amount of money he could have at its disposal at a certain time.
For example if I would get completely mad and spend the business of my family money I could probably throw away 1 million, but its' not that we have millions in cash!! or that we would made such a profit in a year, but if I were to time my mistake I would maybe be able to do it.
And those two millions would look like an insane amount when the actual profits in a bad year are in the 1-3% margin.
That's the same for your boss maybe, he spent the money he was suppose to use for other things.
Having 100k in the pocket out of which 40k is for wages, 30k for buying equipment, 20k for running costs and 5k for bank loans doesn't mean you have 100k but 5k to spend.
