In our society today what some people fail to understand is the difference between progress and perfection.
You can't just see a successful business man or entrepreneur who has made a lot of sacrifices to reach where he or she is and say you want to be like them without putting effort to work and achieve your goals.
Fisrt, you have to work on your self to see if there will be progress to what you are doing, before perfecting it.
Progress and perfection is a very important thing that one can not be successful with out, doe many people will confuse about it, but truth is you can't be perfect in something if there is no progress in what you're doing.
Its amazing to see how far you've gone and what you've achieved so far, and the most important thing is making your self to be perfect in those ramifications you've progressed.

I'm having a hard time understanding the purpose of this topic.
Your first sentence makes it sound like you think most people think that progress and perfection mean the same thing, but that's not true at all. Later you're essentially saying that some effort needs to be put in to achieve success, which is also something that the vast majority understands.

But since we're on the subject of progress - I think the term is vastly overrated and unnecessarily fetishised by society and often presented as the ultimate goal itself instead of a means to achieve a higher goal.

I am also not understanding this topic or at least what you are trying to say. People who do the same thing daily for a job or hobby should realize they're not ever going to be perfect. Everything evolves and there will always be something new you can learn. It's like growing up, kids always think they know everything and don't listen to adults when given advice. Yes, you are right.. for me before one can progress in anything they put their hand into, they have to be perfect in it first, we must keep practicing it and with time we will progress because we can't just come out and progress in something when we don't have the idea or the understanding about it, if we want to progress before being perfect, we are paving way for failure. Progress and growth goes hand in hand amd at some point the two are inseparable,  when you take actions in a particular direction for a while and also make efforts we will definitely records some level of growth and progress since on daily bases you keep recording your steps amd acknowledging them along the way.

If I am not mistaken, OP is trying to reiterate that before one must be successful, one must have perfected their skills on anything they do so that they can achieve success which I believe to be true. Without you constantly engaging in your work, you can not be perfect in it. So constant engagement in your skills leads to perfection and that alone can be categorised as you being successful in your field of endeavour.

Do not forget that perfection entails around perseverance, dedication, commitment and passion. Of all these are missing the. Perfection comes along with progressive of the project. And that needs human effort with seriousness because one can progress in life but not yet perfect and that means you still need some effort to make it perfect. And once you are perfect in anything you doing then progressive will follow. So all what we have to fight for or work hard for is the perfect because perfection brings progression in once life.
