Games of the XXXIII Olympiad or 2024 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in France.

After EURO 2024 this is one of the biggest international sport event this year with participation of more than 10,000 athletes around the world.
They will compete in 45 different sports so everyone can find something to follow, and winning a medal in Olympic games is always something special.
Most popular sports are football, basketball and tennis but there are many more sport events coming.

The breaking competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games comprises two events—one for men and one for women—where 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls will face off in spectacular solo battles. Athletes will use a combination of power moves—including windmills, the 6-step, and freezes—as they adapt their style and improvise to the beat of the DJ’s tracks in a bid to secure the judges’ votes and take home the first Olympic breaking medals.

Perhaps for some OG fans of Summer Olympics we might not watch this sports as obviously, it mostly youth playing this kind of "sports" and it made it's debut in the Youth Summer Olympics. Now it's a full blow sports and as much as for us, this might not be categorically called a "sports", but it has gather some momentum already and I think it could be one of the biggest and most watch.

They can have fun if they want but I dont think this should be considered as sport anywhere, not even in Olympics.
I am focusing on major sports, basketball is going to be very interesting with many NBA players, and some people love tennis, but this is boring sport for me.

Watching dancers have a battle break dancing has always been a fun thing, and I'm so happy that it's going to be a sport finally in this Olympics, so it means that we could see each country bring their best dancers as representatives, which will make it much more entertaining.

My country, Nigeria, will be in the Olympics, competing in some of the sports, and I'm looking forward to seeing them and how they will perform against other countries.

3 x 3 basketball gained popularity with different teams from different countries competing but I didn't know it is already included in major sporting event like Olympics.

I was also wondering why Cricket isn't on the list because it's a popular one too and France has their own team. I found out that it will be added on 2028 Summer Olympics (LA).

I wouldn't argue if it should be considered a sports or not, just like I said, I'm old enough not to enjoy this kind of competition, LOL. It could be fun for the younger generations, but for the majority who have been watching the Olympics since the 80's, this is something very weird to watch as we usually have the track and field, swimming, boxing, tennis and Basketball to follow and obviously what country are leading and dominating the Summer Olympics.

So I leave it up to others to discussed about this new sports that will be introduced this 2024. Not sure how many members from this community will participate though since we are small in numbers are compare to the other forum on the other side.

The sport of boxing was almost banned at the Olympics because of corruption, glad that they still included it in the event, My country has 5 boxers in the boxing events., one of the times that we have this number of boxers, I'm following the olympics because I'm hoping we can capture our second gold and hopefully it will be in boxing.
But I will follow a lot of sports, especially basketball and track and field, as these are the favorites here as well as we delegates here.

Aside a few number of track and field events, I think I’m only going to be following the summer olympic basically for sports, Football, Basketball should be really interesting and perhaps a little bit of Tennis too, although for Tennis it’s just the doubles that will be more eye catching for me, like Carlos Alcaraz playing the mens doubles alongside Rafael Nadal, the beacon and symbol of 2 different generations of great sportsmanship in tennis world.

Nigeria has 82 athletes representing us, in like 11 sports.

A breakdown of the athletes and their events shows that athletics(Track and Field) form the larger share of the contingent with 32 athletes, out of which are 14 male and 18 female athletes. Football, with an 18-woman squad comes second while Basketball with 12 players comes third.

For the first time since 2016, Nigeria will send three boxers to the Olympics.

Nigeria have always had world class athletes most of them even dominate for their adopted countries. The support the ministry of sports provide to these athletes are often very inadequate, they’ll leave these athletes without for several years and provide just minimal supports very close to an event and expect them to outperform their counterparts that have had continuous years of supports and provision, and even when these athletes successfully against all odds make the country proud, they only get celebrated via audio only no really intent.

Thanks for that info, I'm a avid fans of tennis as well, although in the last year or so, I was out and never had posted on the other community as I lost specially on Tsitsipas,  . Yeah, it really is going to be a good tournament because a lot of players are also hanging their rackets after the olympics, I’m not sure if we’ll see Andy Murray though, but if we do that’s also going to be the final tournament for him as well too. It is going to be a lot of an emotional rollercoaster even.

I like how every Olympic games, they add new sports and remove sports that are not popular. However, sometimes I dont understand why they keep sports, where participate can only few countries. For example surfing, not many countries can participate in it, when everyone is able to play football for example. Break dancing is something new for Olympic games. I wonder who made selection of sports to appear? Voting competition?

Boxing is corrupted but this sport is not an exception, all other sports are also corrupted.
If there is more money into some sport than there is higher chance of corruption, that is in football, basketball, tennis and other individual sports in Olympic Games.
Gambling in combination with corruption is making this worse for everyone in sport.

Is Olympic boxing as same corrupted as professional boxing? I dont get benefits of bribing judges. You get an Olympic medal in the end, but few know if there will be any kind of reward from your country. In professional it is clear why it is corrupted - big money are on stake. I am not much familiar with betting on specific sport, but do people place bets on it? I mean do casinos really add those huge tables of all boxing fights during Olympic games for betting?
