Is TAC (Layer-2) really necessary for Ton?
« on: July 11, 2024, 07:03:45 AM »
Speed is an important factor in asserting the power of blockchain, and Ton is leading the market with a speed of over 100k tps [1]. However, recently the community has heard about Ton Layer-2, TON Applications Chain (TAC), which is built on Polygon technology to support compatibility with EVM and DeFi development on Ton.

“We chose to build on the Polygon ecosystem for its EVM compatibility, seamless availability of liquidity from EVM chains via AggLayer, comprehensive deployment support, and Polygon's EVM expertise,” Pavel Altukhov, founder of TAC, said to CoinDesk in an emailed statement. “The vibrant community surrounding Polygon was also a crucial factor in our decision.” [2]

I was a bit surprised by the launch of Ton Layer-2 because Layer-2 is usually developed to solve the scalability issue of Layer-1. In this case, Ton Layer-2 is created just to provide EVM and leverage Ton Layer-1 speed. This can be completely solved by a smart contract such as Near has Aurora, Solana has Neon, which makes it easy for Dapps on Ethereum to switch to running on new blockchains and reach new users.

I will be waiting for the launch of TAC and the value it can bring to Ton and its users. I am also interested in the tokenomics: there is a possibility that TAC will use its own token, similar to how Arbitrum has ARB and Optimism has OP.

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
  • Do you think TAC is really necessary for Ton development and its users?
  • Are you currently using Ton and would you be willing to experience TAC?
  • Do you think TAC will have its own token? Would you invest in that token?

Just want to check the result  8) Great option. Thats what I did.

Well there are L1 claiming they can do 250k tps and as well as claiming to be decentralized unlike TON that is very centralized. Prepraring to compete those platform is never a wrong decison.

I don't want to know why they are testing it on Polygon chain. Mine is just pure investment, nothing more.

It is better to wait and watch for the result without concluding. I am using TON and I will try to experience it given a chance. I do not think TAC will have its token as it is not for solving the layer 1 congestion problem it is for a different purpose altogether. I admire the confidence of the TON team as they think their network will not experience congestion in the future.

I guess they will compete directly with the solution you mentioned above OP, so we can only wait to see how the market reacts to their product. I feel like they use the term just as marketing jargon to reach more users and seek funding since layer 2 is a hot topic nowadays. If they're successful I bet there will be dozens of new projects trying to do the same thing instead of launching an open-source tool to convert dapps from ETH to Ton and vice versa. They will have their own token for sure, it's easy money for them. CMIIW.

Welcome back with the updates and share your views on news in crypto market!

1. I think TAC is a Layer for application, meaning it does not focus on speed but only on the way to approach user needs, including EVM and DeFi. Aurora and Neon themselves can also be seen as Layer-2 on Near and Solana, but are often less mentioned because they do not focus on speed such as Arbitrum and Optimism.

2. I have never experienced Ton and have no need to try using TAC in the future. I am only interested in TON but unfortunately TON has not been listed on Binance ^^

3. If TAC has their own token, it is also good because TAC can be proactive in tokenomics instead of depending on TON token, however, if so, TAC devteam will have to find the most reasonable tokenomics to provide more value for its own token.

Thank you, I've just managed to free up some time to learn more about the crypto market before the big wave hits. There's a lot of interesting news and I need to go back and read a lot of previous information to be able to grasp and keep up with the rapid development of the crypto market.

As you said, L2 is not just about increasing speed and solving scalability issues, but it can also focus on specific purposes such as connectivity or deployment for real-world application goals. Hope TAC won't let us down!
