The recent drop in BTC prices to the 53K USD range has caused many investors to worry, and even the market sentiment index has been pulled back to 25 - extreme fear [1]. Many factors have been mentioned, the first being the event of Mt.Gox starting to pay BTC and BCH to users [2], but its impact is still very difficult to assess and quantify. The second factor is the event of the German government selling tens of thousands of BTC [3].

I blamed the German government for dumping BTC, causing a negative impact on the crypto market. It's even more annoying that this action was not really wise when the new uptrend was just starting and BTC had not reached a price worth selling. However, recent information shows that this BTC sale was conducted by a small state in Germany called Saxony and they were forced to liquidate this 50K BTC according to regulations after confiscating it from criminals in January.

"The general prosecutor's office of Saxony is responsible for liquidating confiscated assets, and the sell-off is hardly surprising," said Dr. Lennart Ante, co-founder and CEO of German-based Blockchain Research Lab. "Seized assets are always liquidated within a certain period. This is a routine business process, although at a larger-than-normal scale." [4]

Upon learning this, I also felt more at ease and less stressed than before, and I took the market's re-accumulation for granted and necessary for the uptrend. After all, from an optimistic perspective, this 50K BTC sell-off event also helped the market temporarily forget about the 140K BTC repayment from Mt. Gox. In addition, when the German government liquidated and transferred all of its BTC to Wall Street via OTC, they will no longer have more BTC to sell, and the market will have one less worry. Wall Street owning more BTC will further motivate them to support the long-term development of the crypto market.

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
  • Are you worried about the German government selling off 50K BTC?
  • What positive perspective do you have about this event?
  • Are you holding BTC despite the negative news that has been going on in the market for the past several months?

Yes. I have to protect the investment I have from getting devalued. This is just a small amount of BTC, the bigger the worry it would be for anyone who are also trading their coins.
For long term holders who bought BTC below 20k I think they may not have to worry.

Why is the German government selling by the way?
Having 50k BTC gives them the edge in this digital age. Its like they don't realize how valuable the assets they got and ghey don't have to mine like El Salvador.

I am not that worried about German government dumping bitcoin. Selling their bitcoin may lead to panic and some people may sell their coins which will lead to bear market and which was what that happened. But if they sell all their coins, the market will be bearish and later become bullish. The fall in price will give opportunity to people that wants to buy at low price.

This is not the first time that the Bitcoin price has gone down. Yes, such a sell-off by the German government is quite concerning as in the future we might see such steps taken by other countries. Such Bitcoin sell-offs will only help institutional investors and whales immensely as they can now buy Bitcoin at a cheaper price than earlier this year. I think the German government has not realized the potential of Bitcoin, any way these Bitcoins were for illegal use and that is why the government will sell them.

Worried? Ha! I am not worried at all. If anything, this is going to allow everybody to buy bitcoins at cheaper prices.

I keep telling people this, that they should be buying low and selling high. that is even if you want to sell in the first place. But buying low is definitely important. I wouldn't understand why somebody would be scared of people making the price lower, unless they bought high.

Why should I if I have not that much of an investment in Bitcoin? But even if I had much I still don't see that news to be worried about as I know eveytime there is a dip it will then bounce back because that is how cryptocurrency works. And that is why there is nothing to worry about the German government dumping huge Bitcoins.

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
  • Are you worried about the German government selling off 50K BTC?
  • What positive perspective do you have about this event?
  • Are you holding BTC despite the negative news that has been going on in the market for the past several months?
1. I was also worried when I saw the sharp decline in BTC price recently, and the German government's sell-off of BTC was accused of being the cause of the panic in the market.

2. I think this is also necessary for the market to re-accumulate after strong growth over the past year. The market always has its own logic and everything that has happened and is happening is reasonable :)

3. I will continue to maintain my DCA BTC & ALTS plan for the upcoming bullrun. I have enough confidence not to sell any crypto at this important time.

These can be blessing for people who have large amount of money to buy more bags but I don't think buying Bitcoin here for profits will be good. I mean, what's the assurance that more dump wouldn't be cominga later. They are doing this deliberately because if they have good intention with Bitcoin market, they would have been selling during the time Bitcoin was going up, it would have cause less attack on the market like the way they are selling right now.

The approach of selling is also bad. When an institution has large portion of Bitcoin for sell, they don't go to the exchange and make deposit directly so the market don't get affected, they do OTC to reduce the damage, people will only know that Bitcoin were moved but wouldn't know if they are sold or not except the insider people and since they know the effects on the market, they will keep mute to protect the market but see what they are doing.

I think that making specific views of bitcoin leads to those "mystery" outcomes, OP, that is, if... no... the situation of the German government, the point is that if we look at the history of this year we have gone through worse situations in bitcoin price falls... and, we had an ATH, hence,  yes! you have to be alert, but that does not lead to losing your cool... or being restless, just write down your ideas, and proclaim that the +80k are there before the end of 2024. well, imo!

Re: Are you worried about the German government dumping 50k BTC?
« Reply #10 on: July 13, 2024, 05:33:17 AM »
I blamed the German government for dumping BTC, causing a negative impact on the crypto market. It's even more annoying that this action was not really wise when the new uptrend was just starting and BTC had not reached a price worth selling. However, recent information shows that this BTC sale was conducted by a small state in Germany called Saxony and they were forced to liquidate this 50K BTC according to regulations after confiscating it from criminals in January.

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
1. Are you worried about the German government selling off 50K BTC?
2. What positive perspective do you have about this event?[/li][/list]
3. Are you holding BTC despite the negative news that has been going on in the market for the past several months?

1. I would not say that I am worried but maybe a little bit concerned all because we are witnessing how the move from Saxony, Germany has affected the price of Bitcoin downward but then again this is not the first time something like this had happened and I guess there can be more similar incident as years unfold right before our eyes. Eventually, the market will be able to absorb the sale and then we can move on.

2. On the other hand - the positive side - the dip became a good opportunity for many to add more Bitcoin to their holdings so this can eventually be a blessing and this is very temporary. We have to remember that what does not kill Bitcoin is another factor that makes it stronger, so to speak.

3. I only have a minute amount of Bitcoin and yes I am continually hodling all because this is NOT the time to sell but to buy. I will only sell my little Bitcoin when the price will reach either $150K or better yet $200K ad I am hoping that in 2025 that goal can be accomplished. We are seeing that the Bitcoin market is just like looking at a glass half empty or half-full...take your pick and make sure to smile as you are drinking your water.

Re: Are you worried about the German government dumping 50k BTC?

The German government is now left with just 3856 Bitcoin according to this article. This mean that we will not see more price bottom of Bitcoin. I do not think we should now think about the German government anymore.

I'm on the camp of not being worried since it means there's a possibility that the coins will be distributed to more people, although the price decrease will sting a little bit. I recall having the same experience when there was news claiming that the US government, or any government in general would dump their BTC in the past so it should not be your first rodeo if you've been into crypto for years already.

That's an ambitious goal. Do you have no plans to sell some after you gain 25% of profit from your initial entry, 30%, and so on? My experience with setting such a huge goal ended up in disappointment since I missed the timing to acquire some profits due to my stubbornness. Best of luck to you though.

Bad news: The German government has dumped almost all of its 50K BTC, negatively impacting the market.

Good news: The German government no longer has any BTC to dump, so the market bottom may have been reached, and we have one less concern in this market. Uptrend could happen without being hindered by FUD related to Mt.Gox or the German government.

I'm even expecting an announcement from the German government that they will be accumulating BTC for the national budget after the congressmen successfully persuaded the government of BTC value in the economy.

Let me start by first answering the third question, which is if I held bitcoin, yeah, I held my bitcoin all through the crash, and I am happy because right now, the price of bitcoin is already showing some signs of recovering, which is a good thing and brings people's hope back.

The truth is that, for me, I've been in this industry long enough and have learned never to fret or fear in the times when the market is going down, experiences have taught me that such times is always a great time to buy and increase ones crypto portfolio.

So when the news came that the German government will be selling tens of thousands of bitcoin, the market started dropping, I was never worried because worrying is not a solution, worrying can only get the one who bares it sick, and that won't stop the government from carrying out their mission, so why worry over something I have no control over?
